Pikmin 3
#31
I agree with Koopaul, I kinda liked 2 better because it added so much to the formula and it improved on several mechanics (not to mention is harder).
The first one was great too don't get me wrong, though. I wonder why they like the first game better...

I think I'd like 2 better, mostly because the biggest downside of 1 for me is the day restriction. I mean, the game can already be pretty frustrating at times as it is (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), but having a time restriction kind of makes me hurry and worry about getting as much done as I can in each day. I don't take the time to enjoy the world, or explore, or experiment with tactics or Pikmin abilities.
(By the way, I know I don't have to get all the parts, but I do want to get as many as I can.)

Of course, I'm gonna finish it, it's still fun, but I think I'll enjoy 2 more.

So there is pink, blue, purple, rock, white, red and yellow now.

I have never played a pikmin game but this looks really interesting Smile

while i prefer 2, i found 1 LEAGUES harder

even disregarding the time limits, the pikmin were killed a LOT easier and the bosses were generally impossible to down without losing several pikmin

with the introduction of purple pikmin in sprays, you could hoard the sprays and down any opponent in a matter of seconds

king bulbax was near impossible to beat let alone beat without sending yellow pikmin strapped with bombs to beat him, in 2 you can down him in like 5 seconds

hell, even enemies that arent supposed to be hit with pikmin like purples generally didnt matter because after dropping purples on their heads you could just call your pikmin over and over to extinguish the flames, the only real struggle i came across with enemies is electric ones

The thing with Emperor Bulblax in Pikmin 2 is that they intentionally made the species a much weaker enemy. This can be reasoned away if the Emperor Bulblax's in the second game are simply Juvenile Bulblax.

Why do you guys all dislike the time-limit? I thought that was fun. It gave Pikmin an arcade quality, and you could do a playthrough in one-shot and come back to get a better score the next day.

As I said, the day limit just makes me hurry. I'm not saying it's a bad idea in general, it does give the game a certain feel, but I just personally don't enjoy it as much because I can't take my time. Which is probably why generally I prefer turn-based strategy (Advance Wars, Frozen Synapse) to real-time. I still have fun with RTSs, but I'm generally worse at them because I don't prepare quickly enough. I find strategy games to be a case of thinking the situation over and planning moves carefully, as opposed to hurrying to get the objective done in time.
Plus, Pikmin also has you do it in 20-minute intervals, and you have to get all your Pikmin back to their Onions every time or you lose them. So you can't venture off too far too late in the day or you won't have time to come back.

I just feel like Pikmin is a game that would be more fun if it wasn't as time-restricted. But that's just my opinion.

Oh, you don't have to return the Pikmin to the Onions. If they're with you, they'll follow Olimar back at the end of the day.

Really? I thought they had to actually physically be there before sundown. I guess that's OK then.

"They" as in Nintendo? Because Miyamoto worked on it, and he thinks his designs are superior to everyone else's.
