Mario bores me...
#46
I'm a gamer too, and when I can't get past something I keep trying, even if it takes days, because that feeling when you finally conquer something so difficult is the best feeling.

I probably should have been more clear, SMB2 or Doki Doki Panic, whatever its called, had a unique playstyle. its not like every otger mario game where mario jumps on a ennemy to kill it, in this game you can actually pick up enemies and throw them, its also unique in the way that its Wart, not bowser like every other mario game in existence. Not only that but the power ups were amazing.
But the point of this topic was why mario was so repetetive, I just wanted to point out that they did make a SMB2, it was also a HARD game. I never got past the 3rd world.
Also the fact that you can choose which charachter you wish to play, not just the same boring mario and luigi buth also peach and surprisingly toad.

Well, me too, but just because people don't like to repeat the same stage over and over, it doesn't mean that they aren't "gamers". As much as I like Super Meat Boy and think that it's a really really solid platformer with good level design, it sometimes lacks things more interesting than pretty hard levels, I don't think I enjoy the theming very much.

I didn't say you weren't gamers I just don't think that leaving a game forever/a long time because you can't get past one part is the way to go, myself (Previous probably meant only leaving it temporarily but you get my point). Sometimes I think I just will never accomplish something but when it does happen I feel extremely relieved and on top of the world.
Of course you know, that's just me and puggsoy I guess. Tongue

Also Kriven nailed it above.

Right, knew I worded that wrong. Anybody who doesn't like that, uh, shouldn't play the game. I dunno. "Isn't a gamer" wasn't accurate, sorry. I wrote it early in the morning so my judgement may have been a bit off.
And to be honest, I actually leave some games when they get too hard as well. Right now I'm stalling Psychonauts since the Meat Circus is like an escort mission with infinite enemies that keeps increasing in difficulty. The thing is that Super Meat Boy is supposed to take a million tries, therefore finding a level extremely difficult isn't as off-putting.

In any case my point was that Koh should play SMB if he wants a game like that. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Precisely this. That's one of the things that makes me enjoy SMB so much, Braid too. Bet it'll be the same once I eventually beat Psychonauts as well.

Sometimes I get to a really hard level, get frustrated, play something else for a few weeks, then go back and that thing that was hard before turns out to be really easy.

Don't know why that happens, but it's a real good feel.

Similar concept in programming. You need a break after strenuous effort doesn't succeed and you feel revitalized.

Ok, kriven but at least you get my point, most mario games have bowser as the villain and that end of the battle with Wart just felt like something different from every other mario game. Just saying that at the time, donkey kong and bowser where a bit repetetive and the other bosses in the series werent as major as Wart.
Though what I meant was to see a bit more modern version of the game Doki Doki Panic
But sorry if I never heard of Mario all-stars.
Though, im not sure if all thoses pictures were nessecesary to quote what I said,

Ok, Wart wasn't all that major. He honestly had very little build up, he was just a new boss. The RPGs actually presented new, well developed villains (granted they are RPGs and have story elements while platformers generally at this time didn't). While Bowser was refined over the years to become the character he is today, Wart did not get that treatment because honestly Wart is an extremely forgettable character. His design is pretty plain, he honestly lacked any form of being menacing. He was a giant frog that spit bubbles. Nothing all that special, Bowser was a dragon wearing a spiked turtle shell that you threw into lava. That's a hell of a lot more memorable than throwing vegetables at a frog. While he had a unique game play mechanic for the fight but he didn't really leave a lasting impression on me. As a small child I honestly thought Wart was just a new and kinda lame design for Bowser.

I think Wart (and Tatanga for that matter) deserve a second chance. I like the Koopalings, but they are all over the place 3 games in a row. Other Mario villians deserve a similar treatment.

On the topic of villains:

Is Boom-Boom a species, or is it a specific character?

Well theres alot of em, and theres an alternate gender one too, so probably a sub-species of koopa, or just koopas on steriods(Most likely).

I don't see how Wart is that important, especially since he basically resides in the realm of dreams, lol. If anything, Tatanga should come back . By the way, Fawful, King Boo and Wario (!) are already more recurring than Wart anyway
