No, you're not the only one. Chances are thousands of people with nostalgia in pokemon will shout "fucking nintendo they don't even have any ideas anymore."

That said, I'm not saying you're not allowed to like them, obviously it's a subjective thing, just that's the general argument when any new pokemon game is announced.

I find that complaint contradicting. If Game Freak didn't have any ideas, we wouldn't have these new Pokemon.

I knew a 6th gen was coming along anyway.

I'll be getting Pokemon Y because I like the legendary's design. As for starters, I'm torn between Fennekin and Froakky. I love foxes so Fennekin appeals to me. But Froakky is so adorable! Chespin looks rather odd to me (but I don't hate it). I'm glad they broke the trend and decided to go with a grass-type mammal. Apparently, Chespin is supposed to be a hedgehog (I see that you did there, GF).

I have so many questions!

*Will there be all new Pokemon like Black/White? I have a feeling they're just using past gen Pokemon as placeholders, so that probably won't mean they're in the region's Pokedex.
*Is this region based on a state in America as well?
*How will trading between generations work? This is probably my biggest concern.
*Who is the evil team? Will they pull a Ruby and Sapphire and give us two evil gangs?
*What is the professor of this region studying? Could it have something to do with DNA or Chromosomes as people are speculating?

Hopefully, these questions will be answered.

Yup. I'm a Touhou fan.

Okay, discombobulated thoughts in no particular order:

-I LIKE the starters, but they're a little off-putting. I have a feeling they'll grow on me, though. I'm most likely going with the Frog, but I'm waiting for the evolutions before I make that decision.
I'm REALLY hoping not all of the starters are going to evolve into SUPER GIANT MONSTER FIGHTING MACHINES, like in Gen V. Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Meganium, and Infernape all looked cool while maintaining some charisma and character, while the Gen V third evos just looked so 2-dimensional.
I realize they're not like characters, but I love how Meganium maintained that cutesy vibe through evolution while still looking cool. Now, I'm not saying they ALL have to be funny, but I'll be really dissapointed if the frog looks menacing by evo 3, but that might be just me.
I'm a little annoyed that Chespin isn't amphibian/reptilian, but I still like the design. I mean, it would be a cool pokemon, but doesn't seem like a starter to me. Meh.
The fox is okay, I just wish the eyes were a little more simplified. It seems the most detailed to the others, but not too bad. I'm pretty much indifferent.

I'll be honest and say it: I think the overworld is really painful to look at. Not because it's all 3d, but it just looks so cluttered and the humans say "Gaia online" more than they do "pokemon". The battles look okay, but it's too soon for me to tell.
Also, I don't know anything about programming, so I'll just ask: How will tall grass work if the game is 3d? In the previous games, didn't it randomly decide encounters for every tile you moved in the patches of grass? If so, how will it work if, say, these games don't move in a grid like BW did? I'm more curious that critical of this.

Most of all, though, I'm really disappointed because this pretty much confirms that RSE remake isn't happening .-.

I do like that it's worldwide release, though. I was kind of annoyed with spoilers and what not. Ideally, I think it would be so cool to go through the game blind without any prior knowledge, but I don't think I can do that until October.
Legendaries are okay, but I don't really care about them anyway. I'll probably get the one that has the Deer-like legendary.

Now I really want to see the starter evolutions and Gym Leaders Very Sad

TLDR; Starters are ookay, I hope they have some form of character in their final evolution, I hate the overworld, like that it's a universal release date, am sad that RSE probably won't be remade, and am pretty indifferent on everything else. Meh.

I took a look at the grass starter and proceeded to not like it

but then I remembered Oshawott and how we all didn't like that design initially

so now I'm okay with the grass starter
Also, didn't Nintendo also confirm a year or two back that they would stop making new Pokemon generations after six? Could just be me imagining things, I dunno.

I mean how long has everyone been expecting this step up? It kind of seems natural for pokemon to take this step on the 3DS (even though it could have been done on the DS but who am I to say? The DS was pretty much nintendo's N64 for handhelds where as the 3DS is the gamecube of handhelds, and as I remember there weren't a whole lot of 3D games on the N64 ether.)

Moving from 2D to 3D has been a shark jumping move with certain franchises.
Some games tried it, but went back to 2D. Even a few companies ended up killing a series after the 3D game flops. (critically and/or commercially)
This often happened during the late 90's and through the 2000's

I'll tell you what though. A sprite project might show up once they finish revealing every new Pokemon.

My thoughts on the new starters.
- Chespin: Its refreshing to see a grass starter that's not based on a reptile or dinosaur. A hedgehog? I thought it was a chipmunk.
- Fennekin: They're trying too hard with the cuteness. then again, Fennec foxes are considered cute by some people.
- Froakie: Has an amusing design, similar to cartoon frogs back in the old times. That's what i like about it.

Glad they're doing a worldwide release. Sick of games getting delayed or never released in Australia.
It's much worse when it comes to downloadable games. Especially on a Nintendo console.

Going against the popular opinion, I think Chespin is fine. Like every other Gen., they grow on you once you play the game usually. Although I think it looks like a Grass-Type Pachirisu.
I prefer the Y Pokémon over X, but that's mostly because I don't care about deer-like Pokémon, whoops.
Also I'm gonna be totally honest, I never absolutely loved any of the starters other than Snivy, so I'll say, right here and now, that Froakie is officially my ultimate favorite starter. I just know it's going to be the Snivy of this Gen. in terms of popularity, and well, Fennekin is probably going to be the Zorua, heh.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this just yet. It really feels too soon for a new generation to be released.... I was hoping for RS remake....

The starter's designs look fine imo, but they just don't look like starter Pokemon. They look more like a mishmash of previous popular Pokemon.

Chespin immediately made me think of Pachirisu because of the face. (Not that it's a bad thing) I like him the most actually.
Fennekin reminds me of Zorua just with a slightly different design. Nothing bad about him; he doesn't feel "new".
Frog Pokemon sure are popular nowadays huh.

The battles look amazing though! I really like the toon outline shell touch with the Pokmon models and how it feels like battle revolution. Gonna miss the sprites though... It was going to happen sooner or later...
This is what I was waiting for since the 3DS was announced! Big Grin

X for me.

So, I just thought of something....with 3d models, do you think that they are adding customizable costumes now?
There's footage of the character looking into a mirror (which could be like a customization area? I dunno) and the girl is shown wearing various outfits:
Though it is possible the girl in the woods is a trainer, this might be possible now, but the real question is if it's really necessary.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure if the outfits the girl was wearing were actually different ('cause everything's too small) so I didn't want to say anything just yet. I actually really hope so, that'd be awesome. With models it'd be way easier as well.

X for me.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of other people have been thinking the same thing.

Some people were also comparing Y to that bird in Shadow of the Colossus, maybe game freak is looking at other media and games for inspirations at this point?

I doubt that, Why end a successful franchise that's been doing so well from generation to generation? seems pointless.
