Sigilyph is probably already based off of that, and although I could be wrong I don't think they'll make two Pokemon (that aren't in the same evolutionary line) that are based off the same thing.

And here I thought Sigilyph was based off of Sigil and the word Glyph which has signs of it belonging to an ancient culture.

Welp, didn't think of that. Still, under "Name origin" on Bulbapedia:
Quote:Sigilyph is a combination of sigil and glyph. It may also draw its name from "sylph", which was a spirit of the air according to folklore.
You're probably more correct, but Sigilyph just popped into my head when RBY mentioned "slyph" so I thought it might already be from that.

I predict that this might be a gender exclusive evolution. After Flareon, Jolteon and Vaporeon, we've had evolutions side by side that are opposites.
Espeon- Day
Umbreon- Night
(Time of day + Friendship)
Leafeon- Lush and verdant
Glaceon- Cold and barren
(Location)
So I believe:
Sylveon- Female
???- Male
(Gender + Dawn stone?)
And seeing that it has the move Trump Card (which only Eevee can learn), it might be a Normal type.

Never considered this, and people are saying that it being Normal would be a waste. But gotta love how people are confirming it to be a Light-type when no news of such a type has been announced. And even more bizarre are folks that want it to be a Bug or Dragon types. Those are BOWS not BUTTERFLIES. That's too much of a stretch. And Dragon? Ehh...the only "proof" (term loosely used) I've heard of this is that Slyveon has "Dragon-type colors". Oooookay.
Hoping this is false, but we've had stranger Dragon-types.

Maybe Gen 6 will introduce a new type. So Sylveon could be a "Light" type.

I'd like to see a new type, but light is so pointless and generic...
Personally I'm a fan of the fairy type theory, to correspond with dragon.
It'd be a new type for all the pink normals that never seemed to normal in the first place.

I'm really hoping for a gender type evolution this time (even if it's just lv. 30 female/male)
With the whole X and Y genetics theme going on, I think it's plausible, except for the fact that only Sylveon was released.
I don't really see why they'd separate their announcements, but it'd be kind of lame to have only one eeveelution (I'd be okay with that, but meh).

Frankly, I'm hoping there isn't a new type. It's not like there's a need for one. Nothing needs to be balanced in the case of typing. Dark and Steel were made for that reason. Also, how could Sylveon be a Light type?

Wow, I was just telling Mighty about how Sylveon reminded me of a fairy. Didn't know there was a theory on it though.
By the way, I know people are making connections to "sylphs" but I just realized. Why call it Sylveon instead of Sylpheon? Unless "sylph" used to be spelled with a v, I'm not so sure.
In any case, my prediction still stands that this might be a female evolution.
If there were a new type, I'd root for Sound. Since there's a number of Pokemon that are lumped into normal and electric that would be right at home with sound.

I've been reading around for the past few days, and Sylveon being based on sylvan makes a bit more sense. Sylvans are some form of spirits or fairies, etc (which might suggest normal typing or the possible new fairy type). Anyways, I'd be interested to see a new typing this gen, especially with how such a type would match up with the current ones.
Also, I decided to read into the Yggdrasil idea a bit more today, and how it would tie into the rest of the game.
There are supposedly three roots that branch out of the tree Yggdrasil, each that lead to a well or spring (Urðarbrunnr, Hvergelmir and Mímisbrunnr). Seeing how each gen has their own trio of legendaries, I was thinking that these three wells/ springs could house the legenedary trio of this gen, which leads me to norns. The three main norns are Urðr, Verðandi, and Skuld. The main problem I see with this idea is that the norns are giantesses, so I'm not sure how they could translate into pokemon.
EDIT: I also had a few guesses on possible evos/ prevos, but I have a feeling I shouldn't swamp the thread with them. jynx (pre), pinsir (evo), weezing/ bronzong (evo), lapras (pre), banette (evo), sigiliph (pre), durant (evo), gothorita (alt. evo), audino (evo), palpitoad (alt. evo), mawile (evo), mienshao (evo), stunkfish (pre), emolga (evo), torkoal (evo), zangoose (evo), spinda (evo), sharpedo (evo)

Woah I forgot. "Fairy" might not be a probable type since that's an Egg group.
If anything, I'm hoping they at least show starter evolutions.
