POKEMON GEN 6 ANNOUNCED
I don't get why people feel like they need another region though. It was just one single game. Everyone's fine with a new world map for Final Fantasy or Fire Emblem, let's just enjoy the new one and you can replay de past ones if you still have the game or whatever.

By the way, you may not notice now, but Pokémon was never an open-world game, and probably never will be. Oriental game design strive for a more goal oriented approach. You'll never get an equivalent to, idk, Skyrim "freedom" in Pokémon. Nor you'll get to really choose your own path, the game is set in progression, so stronger gym leaders will have stronger Pokémon that you can't possibly win yet. An open game would be just a design headache

I guess that explains the newest Zelda and 3D Mario games... Of course I already knew this.

But they showed they could make it possible WITH the second region from Gen II/IV remakes. The Gym Leaders in Kanto were far too underpowered IMO, since you finish the League roughly in the late Level 40s-mid Level 50s, and they Leaders were all in their late 30s, as well as the trainers. All they had to do was power them up the way they powered up the trainers in Black and White's post-game, and it could totally work. You go around the entirety of Kanto on your own whim at that point, visiting Gyms in any order you want. The only thing they'd have to worry about is having the cutscenes play out respectively after each Gym like normal (rival wants a challenge, evil team does something in town, etc.), and scale things up to your level the moment you finish a Gym. It isn't as hard as people are making it sound, it just takes a bit more planning ahead.

Planning is one thing, the resources and money to do something while setting out to finish what you ORIGINALLY planned is another. Also I have no idea what you're saying about the Kanto gym levels, even in the original game they were at least 40.

This is actually just showing that the inclusion of the original region in the second game might have been trying to reach a little too far. What ended up happening was the gym's levels were all around the 40 something range instead of increasing intensity significantly. The layouts were lazy, as I recall the Cinnibar Gym was a simple empty room with someone saying "Sorry, we haven't rebuilt the gym yet!". All those issues have already been resolved in Heartgold and Soulsilver because they expanded the gyms and rebalanced the leader levels.

Another thing to consider is that they are making the game in 3D graphics now, so there are no previous assets to use. If they did a previous region, they're doing it ENTIRELY from the ground up. I'd rather have a complete, new region rather than a bare-bones rehash. You're asking too much, and if they somehow DID include the region switching and made it work at the same time I'd be legitimately surprised.

Well, that's the line for me. Mega Forms are the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen. Who let their 12 year old son design a new mechanic?

Didn't I tell you they must've JUST seen Sailor Moon? I hit the nail on the head before the head even existed...

Watch your Pokemon transform into a mega princess!

Man I can't wait to just enjoy this game and not worry if certain mechanics have been used in other series before or not.
It's new to Pokemon, and that's what matters right?

Nope, because it's not adding anything that would innovate the way we play the game, unlike Horde Battles. It's pretty clear only certain Pokemon would have it, you can only activate it in battle with a held item, so you have no chance of holding something else like a Choice Scarf. Of course they give it to Pokemon that are either already broken or banned from competitive play (Blaziken), so it's a lateral move and completely unnecessary.

So wait, just because of Megalutions, people aren't going to buy X and Y? There are multiple other features that are good such as Horde Battles, Sky Battles, Fairy-Type (Which will help with powerful Dragon-Types), and Pokemon-Amie.

You're deducing that from a short intro video that doesn't delve into it's use.
You don't know if the megastone has any bonus effects.
The Megastone is distributed through a Torchik, so it could possibly have initial stats to help balance Blaziken out.

Keep on making those assumptions when we don't really know that much still.

So basically what you're saying is that a new mechanic doesn't do jack shit to innovate a game.

Sorry, but that's the dumbest thing I have heard so far in this thread.

Why the hell would they add any mechanic without some sort of purpose? The purpose of Mega Pokemon are to add some new depth into battling pokemon rather than adding it there for sparkles and glamor. That isn't game freak's style.

Besides, most pokemon fans tend to grow on these things so why you're all bothering to complain right now is beyond me.

I think it's pretty self explanatory. It's not some complex maneuver in a chess game; it's just a darn appearance and stat change, which has been here forever, but they're passing it off as something new, and it's something we've seen elsewhere.

But you don't really know that for sure until you've actually tried it.

For right now, they're basically showing off a glimpse of what it may be like. Bear in mind that they're not going to release all the details when they first announce the thing. That's practically where your argument of not adding "complexity" into the game is moot.

You're giving it way too much credit. When have they ever revealed something that turned out to be completely different from what was revealed, in terms of Function? The C-Gear, for example, when it was introduced along with Gen V's spoilers didn't have any surprises in terms of what was revealed as its function, and what it actually did in game; it was 1 to 1. Same for the Dream World; they said you link up the games to the website, and play mini flash games to get stuff through the Dream Link, and it worked exactly like that; nothing more, nothing less. MegaEvolution is just an alternate Forme showcase, which we've seen before with other Pokemon such as Shaymin's Sky and Land Forms, just with Mega slapped before every Pokemon's name. I fail to see how it'll be any different from what we've been seeing in terms of form changes and battles, EXCEPT using it now prevents the same Pokemon from holding another item.
