Sad thing is that Microsoft teased that one of their games is a sequel to a beloved classic from Rare (If I'm remembering things correctly), so get ready for Nuts & Bolts 2.

EDIT- I actually cringed from typing that.

"Xbox One's Live TV service will only be available in the United States at launch, with Microsoft 'anticipating global scale over time,' according to an official press release."

"The service will not be supported out of the box; Xbox One Live TV will require a separate supported receiver device with HDMI output to work."

...

I'm at a loss here, its like they don't even want people to buy their product

I think you guys are missing what the X1 actually does. Remember how the guy was talking about how it's annoying to switch inputs on your tv but with the X1 you don't have to? Basically what you do is plug your already-existing cable box (or DVR or whatever was already hooked up to your TV) into the X1's input. Then you plug the X1's output into the TV.

From wht I can tell, "Watch TV" mode is essentially just an HDMI passthrough which eliminates the (small) hassle of actually having to change inputs on your TV as well as freeing up an HDMI port on your TV. In other words, by that logic it's possible that you can hook other things up to it than a cable box, such as a PS4, for example.

Microsoft isn't actually selling TV access. As far as the "Live TV" features they're talking about not being available, I'm pretty sure that's referring to stuff like the TV guides and whatever other TV functionality it'll have. I'm betting you can still /watch/ TV in countries outside of the US, but you won't be able to access guides or any other content. You're still gonna be paying your regular cable bill just like you already were.

edit: for the record, the thing still seems like a piece of shit and i'm not defending it at all.

I dunno, I'm not really counting this system out yet because there's just a shitton of potential for this thing.

Like, sure, we've all been ripping on Kinect for years, but that's not stopping it from being a massive field of research from every techhead in academia, from the gamedevs to fucking medical doctors. If this new system is featuring an improved Kinect, there's way too much research already done for it; in other words, it'll be a massive disappointment if it's not any better this time around.

Then there's that whole "three operating systems" thing, which I think is pretty cool. This essentially boils down to two virtual machines that runs X-Box games on one side and running an app-based Windows 8 on the other side, with the third OS providing communication between the two consoles. So basically you can Skype and keep up with weather updates and maybe some Netflix while you're playing Halo 5. Multitasking.
(Hell, I'd even go as far to say that Microsoft might flip-flop and make this third OS capable of running older games, since part of the reason why this system can't do 360 games is because it's a re-written OS, but I know this is asking for a bit too much.)

And then we get to why this damn thing needs 100% online connectivity: apparently, it offloads a portion of its parallel computing to a Microsoft Cloud server system, so you wouldn't get dips in performance and such while the game is trying to run a script making a decision about what it should do next when you get to a certain point.

tl;dr: this isn't going to be much better than a good gaming rig, but I'll at least admit some of these decisions are actually kind of cool in a way. I'll keep my eye on this; I see no reason to be a dick and hate the system before it actually does anything~

The reason the X1 can't run 360 games is because it's x86 based while the 360 was PowerPC based. The games are coded to entirely different architectures. The "3rd OS" being able to play 360 games is simply not an option unless they make it a super powerful emulator, which I'm pretty sure today's top-of-the-line computer rigs aren't even good enough to emulate the 360, let alone a mid-range gaming PC like the X1 is.

Like I said a few posts ago, I'm pretty sure before the system even came out they said that you'd be able to play 360 games on it if get an addon.

edit- on that note, it might be possible to run original Xbox games natively considering it had a Pentium 3, but knowing Microsoft, that's doubtful.

See? Don't worry, everyone, you'll all still be able to play your old Xbox 360™ games on the Xbox One™, all you need to do is give Microsoft some more money for an add-on. What a fabulous deal!

Btw, I don't know if I asked this here yet (sorry if I did) but when that one guy (I don't remember who) said that the games would be "groundbreaking and unique", did anyone else hear him try to hide his laughter? The feed I was watching was a bit laggy so maybe it only sounded like he laughed, but I haven't been able to find the part of the conference yet to confirm it (and I don't feel like watching that train wreck a second time).

So...wait, is the "used game fee" real or not!? I hope it's fake, because it's like totally bogus!

But what about that whole "connect to the internet once a day" thing??

I also heard that Indie developers have to go through more hurdles to release games on this than the 360...

Yeah, they already killed support for XNA (the language Xbox Indie Games used) a little while back.

I guess indie games aren't "dudebro enough". Only various forms of sports are allowed on this VHS player u_u
