Favorite Controllers?
#16
Hm, I don't think I have a single favorite controller. There are several that I think are wonderful, but none of those are perfect and they still have significant flaws.

First, the Gamecube controller. I really like this one.
It's very comfortable (though I've heard people with large hands think otherwise), and generally pleasant to use. The left stick is great, as are the ABXY buttons. The unique layout of those buttons is excellent, and I think it's unfortunate it was ditched with the later controllers. The L&R triggers are pretty good too, although I do prefer the triggers on the 360 controller. The right stick and z button are okay, but there really should have been two shoulder buttons and the right stick should have had a top like the left one. The D-pad is the only thing about the controller that I have negative feelings about. It was okay for switching visors in Metroid Prime, but nothing else.

The Xbox 360 controller is great, too. The button layout isn't as good as the GC's but the triggers are better and so is the right stick, it's just as comfortable also. The D-pad, however, is awful. Just awful. Well, it's awful on the standard 360 controller. I use this;

...The Batman controller. It has a much better D-pad.

The latest controller I've acquired is the WiiU pro controller. I think it's more comfortable than the previous two, but the complete lack of trigger density is a letdown. Even though the ABXY buttons are a little more out of the way than on most controllers, I don't think it's a real problem. The D-pad is very nice, but not the best I've used.

Now, one other controller I love is the Wiimote. The pointer is incredibly useful and the Wiimote+nunchuck is pretty comfortable, even though it gets tiring eventually.
Really, the only major problem with the Wiimote+nunchuck is the amount of buttons you have immediate access to.

Regarding D-pads, the best one I've ever used belongs to the original DS. I don't know why Nintendo chose to change it, the thing was perfect for controlling 2D movement. The revised DS models' D-pads felt imprecise in comparison.

Wish I could say the controller for my most favorite system the N64 is my favorite, but it gave me bruises once..

On the other hand, I love the Gamecube controller and the Dual shock controllers.
