"It Gets Better, I Promise": The games you like that everyone hates thread

I played Assault on the Gamecube, and I liked it. Me, my bro and my friends wasted a good few hours on multiplayer.

-Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask: granted, it's a game that's earned a fair bit of respect in recent years, but all the same it still has its detractors. This game was beautiful; the plot was incredible, and the replay value is immense (for me). This is actually my favorite video game of all time, tied only with...
-Super Mario Sunshine: OK, the voice acting and Blue Coins sucked. But beyond that, I thought that FLUDD existed as far more than a gimmick, and was utilized creatively in this game; the game also seems to be a bit harder than SM64, but I didn't mind. And for having a tropical/summery theme, the levels in Sunshine were fairly diverse.
-Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin: I felt this was a fairly solid entry, but I will concede there were some glaring issues, such as how every extra playable character (aside from The Sisters) was lazily tacked on, or how some of Wind's quests were missable (because it's totally logical to think that there'd only be one generic longsword or moldy loaf of bread in the game). Beyond that, I felt the adventure aspect was fairly well done, especially since the worlds gave you locales that weren't just inside the castle.
-Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons: often overshadowed by Ages and Link's Awakening, I honestly find Seasons to be the strongest GB/C Zelda game. The world was more varied in appearance in Seasons than the Past in Ages (mmm... brown), the seasons were more fun to play with than Ages' time travel... oh and Seasons didn't have that shittastic Mermaid Suit.
Offending people is a necessary and healthy act... Every time you say something that's offensive to another person, you just caused a discussion. You just forced them to have to think. - Louis C.K.

As far as I know of, anyone who knows video games that go as far as being able to properly analyze a game for it's story, gameplay, interest, and other important things of that nature, usually like MM over OoT.

i actually sorta liked shadow the hedgehog and despite that the guns were completely unfitting, if you ignore them it actually plays like a standard 3d sonic game should. some of the music was also fairly solid and despite the side quests and shit you had to do it was fairly enjoyable.

the storyline is a different matter though and i just like to pretend that it was just an acid trip shadow had one afternoon and never actually went anywhere and thats why almost virtually nothing about it remained canon in any other sonic game.

There were Islands everywhere to explore for stuff like larger wallet/more arrows/bombs/etc, they had sharks that would attack, the treasure hunting, outposts, and on and on. If you couldn't find something to explore, you were doing it wrong, and even then, it was so fun just sailing the open sea, kind of like you said with the trains, it was very relaxing, and the music was the series best yet.
the sailing was boring but there's still stuff to do if you don't rush through the game, like every zelda game. hell, hyrule field in oot was more barren than the ocean in wind waker; 1-2 holes, a few walls, trees here and there, and enemies spread out in remote places some people never bother going to - excluding at night when enemies come after you. besides that, water themed things in general are hated because water is too slow: water temple in oot, water levels in almost every platformer, etc.

I thought people hated water levels because they're awkward to control, and you generally lose the ability to defend yourself.

(combined with being slow)

Yoshi's Story has the best water controls

Metroid: Other M. I don't know what's with me and this game, but every time I hear someone complaining about it I always think "Wait, are we talking about the same game here?". Sure, some of the design choices are, to say the least, a bit baffling(Authorization system, WHAT.), but the rest of it? I can roll with it just fine.

Also, to all of ya peeps screamin' "OMG SAMUS FELT FEAR WUT IZ DIS SPIT" or "WTF DIS AINT RITE Y SAMUS IS CRYIN". She's still human, you know. Emotions are a part of the human nature. Jus' sayin'.

And now, just 'cause I feel prompted to do this:

This'll probably cost me a few brownie points, but ya know what? I need to get this off my chest. I see a lot of people looking at Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic '06 back to back, and almost everyone likes to proclaim that the latter is the lesser evil... while giving the former a bashing for the ages. I'm sorry, but I just don't see it. Like, at all.

I could rave on and on about why I feel it should be the other way 'round(Yes, you heard me.), but I'll save that for another time. That, and I'm not ready to declare war on the Sonic fanbase just yet.

Zelda 2. It had some really neat concepts behind it, the combat actually felt pretty satisfying, and I liked the sidescrolling perspective. Plus, I really felt that its difficulty, while hard, was never unfair. Every time you got hit, it felt like it was your fault, and not something out of your control. EXCEPT THE ROAD TO THE GREAT PALACE AAAAAA FUCK THAT PLACE FUCK THAT PLACE FUCK THAT PLACE.

Kirby Air Ride and EarthBound

My cousins and I loved Kirby Air Ride City Trial mode! It was just so amazing. I would even play by myself for hours.
But my friends just hate it... They think it's too simple and keep saying "What am I supposed to be doing? Just collect things?"
I guess it's a love it or hate it game.

EarthBound suffers from that too.
I know a lot of people like it and it's well rated, but all of my friends really hate the series.
Without a reason too. It's just dumb to them.

I wouldn't put Earthbound or Majora's Mask in here just based a few people you know. These games are universally praised and the people who hate them are not the norm.

From what I've seen of the game, the problem with samus wasn't that she felt emotion, but that she didn't feel emotion like samus should. Samus has always had a sentimental introspective girly side... its just normally a constant subtle thing. Little things like pausing to pay respects to a fallen ally. Or internal monologues (Well better written ones at least, Other M was spot one in the amount of inner dialouge samus had... just needed to write the whole thing better).

Anyways, mine is Dynowars: Destruction of Spondylus. I rarely here anything about it, and the only review I've ever seen about it called it the worse game ever.
It's a mediocre game, not horribad. Doesn't deserve that at all. I mean, if some one put it on a list of forgetable games, or so-so games that will fade into the history because they're not anything special, I'd be cool with that. but worst game? What kind of spoiled gaming past would you have to have had to never play a game worse that Dynowarz?
Christianity is my faith not my religion. And neither should be pushed upon people.
HELP-Need as much C+C and playtesting as I can get on my SHMUP Megaman reimagining!
