Quote:To celebrate A Link Between Worlds, Nintendo is offering Four Swords Anniversary Edition for free on the 3DS eShop through February 2nd. Previously, this was an ambassador only game on the 3DS. Given how few people got to experience the original release, this is a great time to get in on the action, especially with all those new shiny Zelda special edition 3DS' running around. When you access the eShop, the very first thing it will show you is your chance to download the free copy, so be sure to check out the eShop as soon as you can. Who doesn't want free Zelda games?

I personally find this pretty disappointing considering that Nintendo was all like "these Ambassador games will never be available on the eShop so they're for Ambassadors only"
I can understand why they're releasing it but it still feels like a small slap in the face, I guess. If they go ahead and put the rest of the other games up, then screw Nintendo, I guess.

If you don't have this game yet and have a 3DS then drop what you're doing and gogogogogogogo

The article in the OP got it wrong; Four Swords was never an Ambassador game. They put it on DSiWare waaay back in 2010 to commemorate Zelda's 25th anniversary, and it was only available for a couple of months (or was it weeks?).
They're doing it again to celebrate Link Between Worlds.

Actually they only said that they don't have any plans to release them any time soon. I hope they release them (even though I'm an ambassador) just because it would pave the way for more GBA VC games.

Thanks for the info! I probably never would've known about this otherwise, haha. I always wanted to play the original Four Swords but never got the chance with my GBA copy.

I'm pretty sure I read something that said GBA games on the 3DS VC isn't happening, ever, due to hardware limitations.
Basically the way it works is that for the 3DS to emulate the GBA, it has to run in DS mode (since the DS had the hardware to do so) and as such you can't get any of the features like save states or anything that appear in other 3DSVC consoles since DS Mode isn't able to use the extra resources that the 3DS has.
In other words, the Ambassador games were more or less Nintendo's attempt to see if it would work, and when it didn't they decided to release them to the Ambassadors since they can't actually sell them as VC titles with so little features.

The last I heard about GBA games was the possibility of their appearing on the Wii U.

Source?
I'm not disproving that theory all together but something just tells me that it's not entirely possible, but I would like to double check to see who actually said that.
Dang it, looks like it's not free anymore.
Oh well, I'll still get it anyway. As soon as I add more money to my eShop account, I'll buy this along with many other 3DS and Wii U games I've been meaning to buy.
