[IDEA]Ebil's first original game!

Over my March Break, I began to work on my first original game, (temporarily titled due to my lack of creativity) "SkullMask's Fortress".

idea/plot(?):

The game is going to be a NES inspired action side-scrolling game where you play as a random kid who is trying to take down the evil organization, "The Skull Mask Gang"(evil people who wear skull masks) which is located in the "Skull Mask Fortress". The objective is to take down the SkullBoss who is deep within the fortress. Though the idea may sound a bit pointless, it should be good enough for my first game.

I have yet to begin programming it, but I did make a few things for the game.

I made some sprites for the game(still a work in progress)

I also made a game theme(also a wip)

I plan on using SDL and I will begin programming the game later this week.

Sprites are cute and versatile, very good. I think a simple plot idea is good enough provided the game play is solid and fun. It looks like you're going for something like Contra or Metroid with the way you can aim all around while moving. What kind of weapons will you feature? And are there any interesting platform/puzzle mechanics that would set this apart from pre-existing NES titles?

Also, just out of personal curiosity, what are you making this in? Game Maker? Unity? SDL? Personally, I'd go with SDL, since that works on the widest variety of platforms, and a game like this would certainly be popular on open-source platforms like Dingoo and Pandora, the latter of which doesn't have enough retro-style games. If you're using SDL 1.2, I could also help with debugging and whatnot, as that's what I use myself.

[EDIT] I just noticed you're using SDL. I didn't see that under the video at first. XD

Hmm, neat Cute. I'm guessing this will be similar to a megaman style game sorta?
