Jade Cocoon is a game nobody knows about but I had as a kid and I liked it. Then when I was 15 I downloaded it and played through it again and I enjoyed it. It's only 12 hours but whatever. It's kinda like Pokemon except rated T for Teen ! ! ! and your character can actually fight (though he sucks so you really only do this if you need to) and the main thing was that you could combine minions you've caught. Like, it's a PSX game but they still had a way to combine minion models and textures that worked well and of course this modified stats and elements and attacks too but it was all really cool in general. I remember the Fire Boss being a bitch when I was a kid, and even when I played through it again when I was 15 he was still difficult enough to the point where I felt I needed to capture this one minion that had this really strong water spell so I could combine it with my strongest water monster I had at the time so it'd get said water spell and I used that to take down the Fire Boss's minion.
The Poacher is also a rad miniboss. He's a cocoon master (someone who is able to summon minions they too have captured) too and a recurring miniboss who's this old asshole that is still a formidable opponent. He also upgrades his only minion between battles (which is always named "Goat" regardless), but the cool thing was you never see any wild minions using the model his minion uses during the main game. However, after beating the main game, you can do this endless dungeon thing where you can run into wild minions you've never seen before and capture them, and you meet the base model for Goat pretty early on.
I'm sorry for getting carried away. I need to play this again.
