Instrument thread
#1
well im sure some of you play instruments but never really found the place to show it off/talk about it

so here's the place to do so
i dunno i guess i wanted to make this thread cause playing instruments a pretty big part of my life and there are a lot of things to say on the subject so yeah

so yeah as some of you might know i play bass
i also do guitar and piano (mostly to compose things because beautiful 9th chords mmmmmm Heart)

but yeah mostly bass and i play a lot of funk and jazz music so i slap a lot (if you don't know what slap bass is look it up man youre missing out)

i haven't been playing for that long (started guitar 6 years ago and moved on to bass 4 years ago) but i play about 1hour per day so yeah ive been getting better quite fast

to get technical, playing fast and complicated is not really much of a problem anymore for me, this past year ive been focalizing more on improv and phrasing
since ive never really looked up tabs or sheet music for anything my ear is really good (not to brag, really, but yeah i can play something i listen to almost instantly)

the biggest problem i have though is that some very talented bassists i know have told me my playing style is missing some groove because i play a teensy bit too early on the notes
personally i have no idea how to work on this and its been troubling me so yeah

man, there used to be a thread like this back in general discussion i think. but w/e

i play tuba in my schools symphonic band. next year, ill be playing trombone in jazz band and tuba in symphonic. our band is quite good, too. our symphonic band has received straight superiors over the last 20 years and its still going. i hope that streak doesnt break with us..

for jazz band, i need to start practicing on trombone since i still suck at it. i asked my teacher for some music that i can use so i can practice over the summer, and i received five pieces. hopefully everything goes swell.

i dabble on ukelele and acoustic guitar too, but i cant really read the music (because treble clef).

Your avatar makes this better.

I don't anymore, but I used to play the Double Bass. Its kind of like grappling a 7 foot tall, 90 pound mannequin and trying to brush its teeth.

i'm slowly learning piano despite having taken five semesters of it in college, but it's not for performance use or anything. i just want to be able to competently play the piano because it's a nice skill for a composer to have

i dabble with the drum set sometimes

I tried playing the accordion, but I just cannot seem to get it to sound as good as some of the accordion players you find on YouTube and on the streets in European towns.

I play mainly guitar and piano, but also a bit of bass and drums. I'm relatively new to playing instruments, so I'm not very good but I think I'm okay. I'm currently practicing arpeggios on the piano and some alternative picking on guitar. Oh, and I'm going to jam with some cool people today (this is going to be my first jam).

Oh man, I love reading/hearing about music things.

I never really had much ability musically (pretty tone deaf), and to be honest not enough drive to want to keep trying, but I really love hearing other people talk about it.

Uh, I did Clarinet YEARS ago--never really got anywhere with it and it demanded more time than I really cared to put in. I tried piano a little later, but I really struggled putting both left/right hand together, and like with clarinet, wasn't able to make time for it.

Most of my family is pretty musical. I have a brother who's been playing drums for 7 years now and my dad's been doing guitar (+bass) since high school.

Don't think this was really worth posting, but hey o/

I myself can't play any instruments but I do own a keyboard, so I guess that counts to something. But while I can't play any instruments (or read sheet music) I can learn things if I listen to it a few times.

I used to play piano when I was little but quit because I was a stupid kid
I also used to play drums but quit because I was a stupid kid
Now I sing, and have no plans of being a stupid kid and quitting because it's great and I love it
"But Zada this is a thread for instruments"
The voice is an instrument too so shaddup.

I'm a full blown musician, but don't tell anyone: I can't really play any instruments! Whoa! I can sing, and pretty decently at that (okay I probably suck but it's the voice going on all of my songs so I'm giving myself the benefit of the doubt here), but that's it. No instruments. I'm vaguely capable of playing keyboards as a result of me teaching myself some bits and pieces by accident, and that's only because I wanted to do the ballad portion of Bohemian Rhapsody live while I sang it. I still screw it up a lot, so that was kind of a pointless thing to do.

Did I mention I'm a musician?

I am unable to play any instruments due to lack of dexterity, however I'm capable at trackers. The fact that I can set notes to be played by the computer at any given time is great: It allows me to compose with relative ease, as I can preview my music at any time and fix any weird notes.
