TSR's Super Smash Bros Thread|SWITCH HYPE TRAIN NOW BOARDING
That's exactly why they don't, because they have a version developed that would require you to get a brand new version of the 3ds, so THAT will sell like hotcakes.

If that's the case, then I'm very disappointed in Nintendo right now. Trying to play with the Xenoblade fans like this just to sell a new handheld when their current one just started its time in the limelight is a little low.

Especially since they'll have to have bought a Wii U as well in order to play the upcoming sequel.

Do you guys remember a time when it felt like Nintendo was the only gaming company that actually cared about its fans? Because I feel like that time has definitely met its end.

They still do through?

I mean if they didn't I don't think we'd of ever seen Fire emblem awakening here, or get fan requests like Little Mac and Megaman into Smash bros.

I don't know about you, but I think the E3 conference they had this year shows that they are doing better about the fan's interests in mind.

That's really only evidence that Sakurai and his team care, not Nintendo as a whole.

And really, Nintendo is still using even Smash to milk as much money out of us as they can. Two versions with crossover content, extra peripherals, numerous Amiibos, and allegedly already planned DLC.

I see no problem with this.

Nintendo's caring less about their fans? If anything, I say that they're actually trying to get back the ones they lost after all that "casual" nonsense. E3 2014 showed a lot of that.

The 3DS has been in the limelight for at least three years now.

Plus, the New 3DS isn't so much a new handheld than it is a revision with fancy new features and some games that take advantage of said features like the DSi (which, in turn, could make the 3DS in general stick around for longer than we thought).

Nintendo doesn't care about their fans? Haha, I think you're getting Nintendo confused with Sega or Capcom there.

Actually, if I should believe the PAX behind closed doors conference thingy leak, it's that the only DLC actually already planned is Mewtwo, and that's only because they aren't sure if they can't get him done in time for release. If they can't, he will be day one patch for Japan. If he still isn't ready, he's day one patch for the rest of the world. Otherwise he's free DLC.

But hey, that's just a rumor. A game rumor.

Also, on the Xenoblade thing in Europe, the reason it wasn't ported to America was most likely because it didn't sell in Europe. I live in Europe and I'm pretty sure the shelves weren't exactly stacked with them, because who even knows what a Xenoblade is?

There are actual "armors" in the game that give anyone who equips them that skimpy look

From what I remember, they tend to give some excuse in the description like being some super magical oil that they wear or whatever

Honestly, I think they won't reissue Xenoblade's Wii incarnation for the simple fact that Wii games are so easily pirated... there's a greater amount of risk in releasing a product that the majority of its fanbase has likely already acquired for free. The cost of manufacturing the discs and distribution and all...

I suspect the new 3DS OS update will provide greater protection against the use of flashcarts, so currently the best way to release Xenoblade is via 3DS where it won't be as easily pirated. The new 3DS is kind of a bummer, but I'm not too bent out of shape about it... I don't think too many games will require its use. That's pretty bad marketing considering the number of people who already own one of the original 3DS models... developers with less of a safety net than Nintendo will find it risky to develop for a system which will arguably have less market presence. It's more likely going to be a perk for owners to have that, with "New 3DS Accessible" games as opposed to exclusive ones.

As for why Xenoblade wasn't released in the US, I do suspect the downward trend in JRPG sales had something to do with it. I think we missed out on a Fire Emblem game for a similar reason, right? It seems silly since Xenoblade is arguably very influenced by Western RPGs, but Nintendo may just be playing conservatively with market trends in mind.

Nintendo not caring about their fanbase is something I felt the past decade or so, and it's still teetering in my mind when they talk about obvious money quests like Amiibo... but at the same time, I feel like Nintendo has really been making positive headway back into appeasing all their fans. Their games have been more compelling this generation, and they're letting themselves branch out into more genres than ever before so we don't have to wait five or more years between releases. Honestly, about the only thing they could do to make me feel better about them currently is to fix up the Wii U a little to better integrate WiiWare games into the system, and to allow the digital purchase of DS and Wii games from the eShop for the 3DS and Wii U respectively (since both of those systems can actually play those games). They really are catching fire, and I think it's going to be a year or two before the trend slows down.

Xenoblade is a little too SquareEnix-ish for my tastes. I look at Shulk and his world and it doesn't look like something from Nintendo.

I feel that way as well, but it doesn't feel like Final Fantasy either. Honestly it reminds me more of Star Wars.

That's okay with me, though, because I'm happy to see Nintendo breaking their comfort zone. Definitely if it means new IPs as opposed to twisting existing properties for things they aren't suited to do.
