TSR's Super Smash Bros Thread|SWITCH HYPE TRAIN NOW BOARDING
They could go the New Super Luigi U route and release a massive expansion for half the price of a new game?

On Lucina and her name: I don't know about the whole "Lucas" "Ryuka" thing above, but Bowser and Jigglypuff have always gone by their Japanese names, and Charizard is being called "Lizardon." It makes sense for Lucina to stick with her Japanese pronounciation for that region.

Speaking of which, how do you say her name? I've always said "Loo-See-Nah." Is that wrong?

Lucina is supposed to be a Latin name, as seen here and here. Since it's a Roman name, then it originally should be read 'lu-CHEE-na'.

The fact that it's rendered with a hard K sound in Japanese is another proof that the actual Roman sound is read with a hard C, seen here, ユリウス・カエサル Yuliusu Kaesaru, Iulius Kaesar.

Therefore I call her 'lu-CHEE-na' as it is how it's supposed to be, according to all things above.

(Japanese tends to get names more accurately than English does for some reason, despite the severe lack of phonemes)

For those disappointed with the exclusion of Ice Climbers, I DO want to mention one instance of a similar situation happening in a different fighting game in recent years, and that there is still hope in the form of DLC for Ice Climbers if they feel the need to (pretty much the only reason they would is possible fan outcry now that the info is out).

In Marvel vs Capcom 3, Frank West from Dead Rising was planned to be a playable character, as he had been a playable character in Tatsunoko vs Capcom before that on the Wii. However, in the original release of MvC3 he was absent, supposedly due to technical issues surrounding him and the online mode. When Ultimate MvC3 was announced, Frank West made a return, fixed for the new release of the game.

Now I know this is a somewhat different scenario, seeing as MvC3 was on a more powerful hardware platform, and rather than being DLC the content was added in a completely new release of the game. However, this kind of stuff isn't unheard of, and if Smash DOES hop on the DLC bandwagon, Ice Climbers could make a comeback.

Just don't obsess over it, because it might not happen. Sad

Oh really? I didn't know that. I always thought it was "lu-see-na" just like Omega and Kriven. I just learned something new, heh.

We'll DLC can't add more power to the 3DS so unless it's Wii u exclusive, Ice Climbers really aren't coming back at all. I find it funny that nobody really cared about them before they were gone though, lol.

Also while this is an instance of the Wii U version being held back... What else has the 3DS done? The modes will be different and so are the stages. I'd like to bet the Wii U will have more stages but I'm kinda worried.

A lot of people have been concerned about the Ice Climbers not making the cut since it was first mentioned that Sakurai was having difficulties getting them in the game. A small group of the people distraught about their exclusion weren't vocal about their fears before because they assumed the fact the characters were even being worked on and the inclusion of Polar Bear in Smash Run meant the duo were definitely coming back.

That is the correct pronunciation in Latin, yes.
But it's officially pronounced "Loo-see-nah" in English. (At least as far as the character in Fire Emblem goes)
In Smash Bros, all characters, excluding ones with different names like ROB/Robot Murabito/Villager ect, are pronounced with their English pronunciation.
So Lucina should be "Loo-see-nah", right? If they were going to have a special case for her, and have it been the Japanese one, then shouldn't be "Ru-ki-na"? Why hybrid them like that?

Just a curious detail that I don't really understand.

Here's a sound clip of it.

It's not so much as making the hardware more powerful, more so tweaking the Ice Climbers so that they AREN'T hampered down by the hardware. No idea if that is possible, that's up to the programmers. In the article it made it clear though that they weren't a high priority, so... probably not happening.
