GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!)
If we did that we'd have an actual use for the rep system.

Pretty much I was thinking:

No auctions in-thread. That's for eBay (which users are allowed to link out to if they want).
Pictures are to be provided on request.
Be clear in your initial post as to where in the world you are willing to ship and what kinds of payment/trade you accept.
Be real about your descriptions. If something's unopened but it's been kicked around a bit, you can't call it new.

I think the biggest concern is how to handle the punishment of poor traders... Obviously, I don't think the site can really do anything to reimburse people who get ripped off. All we can really do is shame or ban users who don't trade in good faith. Like Helmo said, it would give the rep system an actual use. I also think it wouldn't be a bad idea to create a custom member group for users who don't follow through with their half of trade agreements.

To help combat all of this, I think there should be some stipulation to post when a trade has been agreed upon... a post by both users. Even if most of the discussion happens in PMs, I think a public:

Kriven: I'm trading this to Vipershark in exchange for that.
Vipershark: Yeah, sounds right.

That way the community can be aware of what transactions are happening and who follows through with what (so I guess this thread could be teamed up with the Going Broke thread as a way of monitoring user transactions).

I mean, I don't really know if anybody else is into trading games and such, but I have a closet of stuff I've been itching to move, and I feel like even if we don't all see eye to eye that the regular users here are all pretty honest (unlike game trading sites/craigslist/whatever we're you're dealing with virtual strangers).

Asking here just to see if anybody is even interested and so a mod can either nip or approve.

I'm also okay with this plan with one important stipulation - personal information should never be shared in the public thread. Shipping addresses and the like should be strictly limited to PMs. I feel like this should be common sense for most but it's an important point to bring up none the less.

I agree that there shouldn't be auctions. Offers should come with a price or a note that you're willing to trade and what you're looking for. Obviously, negotiation is fine but "bidding", so to speak, wouldn't work well in this format.

Handling poor traders can be a little complex. For trades, I'd say ship everything via traceable mail when possible and then provide tracking numbers. For purchases, I suppose the most security you could get would be to pay after receiving a tracking number and for the shipper to physically send out the item only after receiving payment. This still leaves room on either side but, as has been mentioned, I don't think there are many in this community who would participate in something like this with the intention to rip someone off. There won't be a user group for people who do though. Verified cases of fraud (because that's really what it would be) will result in an immediate and permanent ban. I wish we could do more but short of serving as a broker for these trades (which would be logistically infeasible), that's the most we can offer.

And yes, I agree about a public acknowledgement of a deal being made. Most of the discussion should take place in private but the confirmation should go in the thread, both for the security of both parties and to also confirm that an item or items have been spoken for.

I want to make Ed from Paranatural in Xenoverse but there's only 8 character slots. Very Sad and I want to have at least one character of every race and gender, of which there are a total of 8.

You know what's interesting is that we still don't know what the story is in Yoshi's Wooly World. Who's the villian? Bowser? Kamek? Did they cast a spell to turn Yoshi's world into yarn?

If you look at the box art and screen captures, it's likely that Kamek and Baby Bowser are the ones behind it. Also, from what I understood from a Gamexplain video, they were all Yarn Yoshies to begin with. It's just that Kamek showed up to unravel most of the Yarn Yoshis into Wonder Wools.

I'll be glad that Nintendo learned from Artoon's mistakes and never include something like that in what appears to be a perfectly good sequel. Besides, they just got lazy with it in New Island.

Kind of hoping there would be a new villain this time.

The day they'll use a different antagonist besides Bowser in a main Mario game is the day a pig earns his piloting license.

Still, since it's not exactly a main entry in the Mario series and Goodfeel (the same guys who brought us the Shakeking and Yin-Yarn) is working on it, that gives us a pretty good chance of that prospect.

Super Mario Bros. 2 and both Super Mario Lands.

Wait, you said main Mario platformer.  Never mind.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the concept of a grown-up Bowser traveling back in time and messing with his longtime nemeses' past selves actually sounds kind of badass? Hey, put this idea in the hands of competent developers and we could get something pretty cool here.

I'm imagining some kind of Partners in Time thing.  Bowser gets Kamek to warp him through time and space with the intent of rewriting history and fixing all of his past mistakes.  His meddling starts screwing things up in the present, such as the Mushroom Kingdom turning into Neo Bowser City and Peach becoming his queen or something to that effect, and adult Mario and Luigi use Professor E. Gadd's time machine to chase Bowser down through time and undo his retconning rampage, reliving past events along the way. Eventually, Bowser shows up just in time for the original Yoshi's Island endgame sequence and tries to eliminate the Bros. in their infantile form so they'll cease to exist in the future, and it all culminates in some over-the-top climactic showdown between the Marios, Luigis (and Yoshis), and Bowsers of past and present.

There. I think my FanFiction.net-esque foaming at the mouth sounded ten times more engaging than Yoshi's New Island's endgame right there.  Actually, forget the Yoshi game; that could all make for a pretty damn awesome anniversary game, like Mario's answer to Sonic Generations. Hire me now, Nintendo.

The only reason why this scenario didn't work in YIDS and YNI was because of the mediocre execution; in both games, there was absolutely no buildup for that plot point, and it just came right the hell outta nowhere.  The fact that both final battles paled significantly in comparison to that of the original Yoshi's Island didn't help matters, either.
