I'm new here, and I'd like to know how to make my sprites better.

here's a recent thing I did, the one on the left is the newer one, while the one on the right is the first version I made of it.



(I'm not good a spriting super small, so this is my general sprite size.)

Man, these are sweet. You have a real knack for texturing and I rarely see artists pull off dithering this well. Are these random doodles or are they for a game, perhaps?

uh...well, its not that great.
The problem is you're not actually trying to make it "HD" 
with an HD sprite you need to make it larger and more detailed. I mean, the sprite you "made" still has little balls for hands.


Cave story plus does a good job of this.
adding details and extra shading.

So you just need to put more effort into it.

I tried doing Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth from Ace Attorney as Super Mario Maker costumes. Personally, I think it doesn't look that bad, although I had issues with both Wrighto and Edgey's hairs.
