NEW! Super 3DS Bros - New 3DS Model
#16
I really like this one though. I think it's valid considering the sheer amount of new stuff included. Also it's prettier.

Also colored buttons, that's the icing on the cake

I understand people being upset with the change right now but I think I'd be okay even if I had bought a XL. It's not like the original DS is utterly obsolete anyway.

Er...I think you mean 3DS?

I didn't get a DSi for a similar reason. Even when my original DS was falling apart (the R Button stopped working like it used to), I still didn't get one, especially since I knew I'll get a spiffy 3DS later on.

Will the western version even have colored buttons? We didn't get the colored buttons with the SNES.

Anyways I doubt I'm going to bother buying one until an exclusive game that I'm actually interested in comes out. No reason to rush out and get it the moment it comes out.

Need I say more? I think this sums up the whole thing.

As much as I hate this "New 3DS" thing myself, I'm not sure drawing comparisons with the 32X is very accurate. It's more along the lines of the unreleased Neptune more than anything.

.....Yeeeeeeah, except...New 3DS isn't a hideously hulking add-on to the original system.

I honestly prefer the way the Genesis did it because it allows me to use my original hardware that I already bought to do new stuff. Granted, that functionality should have been in it to begin with (dual sticks and extra shoulder buttons on the 3ds, hm?) but I'd rather keep using the hardware that I already bought than have to get the new one.

...but to be fair the circle pad pro DOES look stupid and it's really wonky having add-ons on a handheld...

personally, i think this is a pretty good idea. as long as the XL and the 2DS are still being sold, these are gonna be just like the 2DS- an alternative for a specific audience, but in this case, the hardcore audience. the OG XL will probably go down in price, and once the october update hits, all current 3DSes will have the same OS update. i doubt very many games'll support the added circle pad, at most it'll be optional.

I don't own a 3DS, but I'm considering buying one, so I can play Smash Bros when it comes out.

Is this a wise move? Or should I just be patient and wait until this "new" 3DS comes out?

I ask mainly because I don't know how to transfer data from one console to the other. And from what I've heard, a lot of people who own 3DS's are concerned about this as well.

I'd say go for it and wait for this to release in America (or not if you really want to import it but I dunno if you or anyone would have problems after that if you don't live in Japan; I'm thinking more about eShop issues and stuff). It honestly looks like a much nicer handheld from a "not already a 3DS owner" perspective, but I really do think Nintendo made a mistake in making this exist in the first place. It's very obviously a stopgap console and not its own thing in any way, shape, or form.

I just wish it wasn't region locked myself. It makes trying to play foreign games, like Puyo Puyo Tetris, impossible. That makes the Nintendo consoles lose so much charm.

To be perfectly honest, every system nowadays is region-locked. It's not just Nintendo.
