Characters In a new style

The hand gets smaller when pointed back and bigger when pointed forward in the movie, similar to how early Final Fantasy games did. Yours remain the same through the whole cycle.

I have one of the Disney Felix machines in my living room if you need any help with these. I was going to post the sprite sheets for the game that's on the computer in the cabinet. I'm not sure if that last one of Ralph is in the folders of things they tossed during prototyping, but I could look.

Good eye that was off. I also messed up his overalls in frame 2.

Fixed and here we are.

I'm not sure but is it me or are his arms a bit off in size?

If the intention is to perfectly replucate the sprites from the original, his legs when walking only have one pixel- like a Final Fantasy sprite. Have you tried accurately building the shapes based on the image first? It actually is both so zoomed in and with scanlines added, so it should be easy to read things like... I dunno- in the pose you're doing, the right foot is three pixels of skin, then up and left one pixel, two pixels pants, then two pixels skin and that's the feet done, etc.

I thought so. Hmm needs a fix. Not sure I can fix these right. I think I'll start from scratch.

Hmm if you can find anything to help I would appreciate it. As for the main sprites from the game I think they are on SR so those we should be covered.

It doesn't help that I made these sprites right after the film was in theaters and there was no screen cap I could use at the time. I used a T-shirt design I found to get the shape. I think I'll start over and make them more accurate to the movie.

It'll also make it much easier to emulate the style for the others Bad anon characters. (Both from the film and for the comic.)

I'll get right on that. But first I need to finish writing a chapter for the comic.

Hope I'm not causing a fuss been very busy latley but I'm going to get back on track.

With my friend Klaw having done the rough drafts of the first pages I'm going to be working on the sprites again.

I'll keep ya posted and like I said hope it isn't a problem posting in my old thread.

Ok haven't had any chance to sprite anything new but I am experimenting with filters to achive the look from the movie's monitor close ups.

So far I've managed a sickly monitor look.

But I'm going for this

Notice the brick checkered pattern created by the scanlines and mask? Anyone know a method to achieve that?

typically you'd sprite as norma and use a post processing shader on it when displaying,
there are many ways about it, just look up CRT emulation, heres one as an example

Oh true enough. I'm just trying to get the look just right and process down pat beforehand is all. As it is it has been bugging me like nothing else.

You know this has got me to thinking on another matter. How am I going to emulate the sprite look of Digitized sprites if I have Ralph visit a game like MK and the like? Hmm I may need to try to sculpt a Ralph figure out of clay or something. Luckily within the game no one will need any changes since thats going to be drawn.

At last I got a update for you guys. This time we have Q*Bert in Fix-It Felix style.

I put Ralph, Felix and Chuck in for comparison.

Got to tell you he was a royal pain to get even this close. I say that as I'm not sure I got the shading right on him. Also maybe I should darken him down slightly like Chipper Chuck. Any ideas my fellows?

Updates who wants updates? Well I got some for ya. I went back over my Pac-Ralph sprites and I think I got it to look closer to the movie than my old ones. Traced out the shapes on a screen cap (Straight line tool thank you!) and then remade it pixel by pixel.

Here we are even fits in the Pacman maze.

and for comparison a shot from the movie.

Not 100% on the darker color on his arms but I think it looks just about right. What do you guys think?

To me, it looks like his colors are the same as the colors he has in his other sprites in the movie. You could probably take them from the rips of him on the site.

Well to a degree yes. I have borrowed the colors from his Fix-it Felix style for the Pacman style. But I only used his hair, the red from his shirt, Maroon overalls, Nose pink and Skin tone but his shirt is many other reds and oranges to make it flannel and the Pacman sprites don't use those.

His pallet isn't what I see wrong. I think that the hand marks (Where his fist/knuckles would be) are off is all.

To be honest, the small indent on the top of his hair between the two tufts looks a tad bit too wide. It makes it look kind of off to me. Maybe add a single pixel in there like the sprite from the movie?

Good eye I didn't even notice myself till you mentioned it. I also noticed his standing pose was a pixel too tall so I fixed that too.

Also I noticed something after replaying Abobo's Big Adventure Zelda one has a very similar to the style of PacRalph. Not the other Bad-Anon guys oddly but Ralph is. Might be worth borrowing some for the newer members that will be in it.
