I think that many frames is unnecessary for such a small movement.

Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out heh

The leg details are inconsistent on your ref sprite
the bottom silver part on the boots overlaps the knee on one side, but not the other and the width on the knees seems kind of large on the left knee the left hand could also use a little tweaking overall, a pretty decent sprite; keep at it Thanked by: ~Axis~

I fixed what you mentioned, except for the left hand, numerous tries made it look worse so I left it as is. Gave him a confident smile too I rounded out the tail of the Quizzle. I thought it looked too... square. Thanked by: Sevenstitch
I made my first character animation.
I made this thing in roughly 30mins. Didnt add any shading because I wanted to keep it simple for the time being. C+C please.

The tail was kind of octagonal, so I fixed the curve for ya. Your running guy has a similar problem with the front of his head, along with the front quill looking like its stretching at the tip instead of leaning back like the other ones.. Also, one arm is significantly higher than the other. Thanked by: ~Axis~

The blue on the eye might as well not even be there. I'd brighten it or ditch it altogether. Otherwise, looking pretty good. (Not really sure what Kirby is doing, but...)

Thanks for pointing that out. It's like I finally make a decent sprite, then I somehow manage to mess it up with a silly mistake.
Edit: Created this guy randomly from the random realm of randomness.

Light source is a bit wonky. I assume you're going for a metallic look, but the highlights don't make much sense. Looks like the light is coming from both sides as it is, currently.
Thanked by: ~Axis~

I think its the highlights on the head you're talking about. I'll fix it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This isn't a bad sprite, but it has some pretty obvious flaws
Your light source is all over the place, and your shading suffers from banding and pillowing issues; you follow the outlines of the sprite when you should be shading for depth You also have several jagged lines and also straight lines, both of which distract the eye and break the flow of the sprite I made an edit to illustrate what I mean Now my edit isn't the best, and there are still flaws, but most of the ones I've addressed are gone I made some line and layout tweaks as well to suit my preference, although i found some of the placement a bit odd You really have come a long way Blur, you're right, and you've stayed with it for longer than most new comers to sprite work that have popped up around here The more you practice the better you'll get, keep at it

HOLY FLIPPIN SHIT IS THAT AWESOME --ahem...
Thanks for the help. I'll study that edit you made and make improvements. To be honest I made that sprite lazily unlike the kirby sprite up there but thats no excuse for slacking. Thanked by: Sevenstitch
Comaparison I've been studying the pixel anatomy made by sevenstitch and improved the sprite. I used the pallet provided but all else has been remade from scratch. I tried to shade according to an upward light source along with attempting to make the head a side view look but I think there can be improvements. I spent a cosiderable amount of time on this compared to the first one. Took me about over 30mins total. Update: Fixed the outward leg. Dither attempt 1: |
