I tinkered around ab it. Which do you like? (from left to right) A, B or C?

For pretty much all the sprites, I like sprite B the most. There's enough shading to make it look like a SNES sprite, but not enough to clutter up the sprite's details.

Agreed. Save the third shade for larger sprites.

Yes, at least just a little. Looks odd with them being flat.
