The eShop is down right now, actually too lol.
...and the servers are back!!
I assume they'll be up until 8pm EST
Lo and behold, yup. Played until the end, then went into tutorial to enjoy my time a little longer. Game was hectic, and it was fun!
There were A LOT of Japanese people playing through.
Splattershot > Splattershot Jr. > Roller > Splat Charger but that's just me
it's weird though, because when we did well, we flat-out steamrolled. And then when we got rekt it was like an irrecoverable loss. OK that's not completely true we've turned games around in the last 30 seconds sometimes. But after the last demo, I have three questions:
- Where's Dazz
- Does he have a press copy of Splatoon
- Why hasn't he ripped the music from the game yet

Tried it out for a bit. The team I was in seem got smashed a few times with one game being a draw. Wonder if they'll nerf the paint roller.
I'm not usually an online multiplayer guy, but I haven't had this much fun on multiplayer in ages. Loved it.
Yeah, there was Japanese people on my playthroughs, as they seem the be really hyped for it. Must be Ika Musume fans playing as well.

I uh, i don't know how to tell you this but
the paint roller seems powerful at first, but in actuality it really sucks. That's bound to change once the retail game goes live (because y'know, more weapons like the paintbrush, etc.) It's partly because of the mindset of the roller players right now causes them to horribly overextend.
Most of the time you can easily kite a roller player (bait them into following you, thinking they have an easy kill because you're carrying Baby Gun) who thinks they can overpower you by running backward as they try to roll you. Of course, you could be xXswaglordXx and swim around them, jump out and shoot them, but just walking backwards should do.
As soon as you see one in your sights, just go nuts with the Splattershot/Jr in their face. Most of the time I ran into roller players I'd just step back a little and go full-blast on 'em with the Splattershot.
I was actually able to shut down rollers point-blank today. In fact, I just destroyed people and had like six kills before the end of each match. I was kinda proud because I'm horrible at shooters.
Personally, I feel that roller is more of a glass-cannon role: let the Splattershot players take the lead and apply pressure, and just cover the territory behind them, secure those areas for your team and provide assistance with the Killer Wail as needed. Block off chokepoints using Killer Wail as Splatter players do their thing.
The Splat Charger though seems really impractical in the demo, but given the other teased modes of play like the King of the Hill one (it's got a moving platform that goes along a track, like in TF2) it seems much, much more practical there for sniping the players riding the structure in that mode.

I'm more used to shooters for computers since mouse and keyboard feel easier to control than analog sticks.
But I'll remember that next time. The team was very noobish, as they relied too much on the paint roller.

I honestly have no real interest in this game ... however I have to admit that I rather like the character designs.
... is it wrong that I want to buy their Amiibos just for that?

The roller is very much a utility weapon. You don't charge in for kills with it, you use it mop up areas much faster and more precisely then the guns can. If you can sneak up behind someone and plow them over, so much the better!
You have to be ready to squid back up your own trail when you start getting shot at. Your best option for combat is to take cover behind terrain and use the roller's paint throw ability to take them by surprise when they come to get you.

They should've used that for the trailer. And then the extra letters squeeze their way into the middle. Dat woulda been clevah.

At first glance I thought it said "Spoon".
Now I'm kind of disappointed that it doesn't ...

I honestly hope there's a letterman jacket in the game to allow the Inklings to cosplay as Captain N.

Well, that was awkward. The leak seemed pretty real to me, but now I'm kicking myself for not taking a good look in the comment section… ^^;
If this keeps up, Gamexplain would probably make it their thing to discuss leaks that they know are fake. (I know they're not, but just saying…)
