*Sigh* I'm nearly at a loss for words right now…

When I decided to browse this site, I stumbled upon this in Clouder's sprite topic.



I couldn't believe what I just saw there, so when I rushed over to Wikipedia to check the recent death list, I saw his name smack dab on it. Looking at your guy's reactions and the what has been covered on other sites (including Gamexplain's channel), the news understandably spread like wild fire.

2015 has been a pretty bad year for me for a variety of reasons (even though it is the same year where I graduated from Full Sail and got my hard drive replaced with a more superior one), and I thought that the most devastating death was that of Christopher Lee's. After reading over what everyone has said about him and his great accomplishments, the most unsettling thing about Iwata's death is his age. (He was 55, man! That's about eleven years less than Walt Disney's age when the same thing happened to him.) Even though we can all agree that he could of have a few more good years left in him before his time was up, I'm more concerned about the idea of who might be next to deal with Reaper since we've been losing vital members of the entertainment industry over the past two or so years.

Anyway, I could ramble on about this, but I just want to leave it off at how I hold a great deal of respect for this man and Nintendo won't be the same without him. I'm hoping that his successor(s) won't have that much trouble filling those big shoes he left behind. Also, would it be possible if this site does some kind of tribute to Satoru Iwata due to his impact on the gaming community as a whole?

By the way, before I go, I just want to point out that this sad event didn't go unnoticed by the creator of a certain Nintendo web comic.

first of all; my condolences everyone. it is sad that such a great man as mr. Iwata had to go early. he made nintendo what it is today, he made nintendo approachable, more open.

i made a litttle tribute for him with my amiibo's ; characters that brought me joy because of him, and that i still love as of today



i loved seeing him every few months in the nintendo directs. he wasn't just a great programmer and great president; he was the face of a more fun and open nintendo.

gee I'm kinda bummed, like this news still can't be real. ah well, guess it's real. i really don't want to understand right now.
i'm not really good with people dying, especially someone i've never met. i know he's a huge name in the industry and he's a programming badass, but, i, well
this sucks a ton.
i suddenly feel like i'm too old when contemporary game designers that've been responsible for the games i've loved as a child begin dying.
it's really nice though because if you look on social media, even Sony and Microsoft had paid their respects. that's super classy of them and i respect that

They haven't actually stated who they're going to have replace Iwata yet, just "Well there's these two guys and they're keeping their respective titles here at Nintendo".

While the sudden death of someone well known as Iwata isn't any less surprising to me since many famous people known for one thing or another has passed on over the past couple of years, this one is probably the most saddening of them all given that he has done so much for Nintendo.

With that being said the only thing that can be said is that may him rest in peace but never let his legacy and the things he's done forgotten, it helped keep nintendo alive for the many years we've known the company.

On the subject of who nintendo's next president would be, I'd have to say Miyamoto is a strong candidate. But the only thing we can do is wait to hear an announcement from Nintendo. Until then I'm going to let my feels sink in about all this.

Man this sucks i found out after work yesterday what made it worse for me though is i bonked my head at worked which it started bleeding bit then after work i go online and find this awesome guy is gone. Man he created so much fantastic childhood memories without his programming skills some of these games may have seize to exist may you rest in peace Iwata sincerely my condolences to his family.

I'm sorry to hear that he passed away. 55 is way too soon for anyone. Guess it comes to show you that death comes unexpectedly at any time.

I've prayed for him off and on, but I haven't recently, so I feel bad about it.

I'm really sorry that Mr. Iwata passed away just as he was recovering from his surgery, he shouldn't deserve this and hope that his family are coping with this news. Have been feeling at breaking point and not just a personal event that has happened to my family for the past few days, this sudden upset makes me feel even worse.

When I first saw the title thread, I thought it was a joke but then looking at the posts and the official letter from Nintendo (plus a picture of Mario bowing down) shows it happened and too soon I feel. Despite Nintendo's problems going on right now, Iwata has contributed a lot to Nintendo and HAL whether it was from making Iwata Asks giving insight to a company that is normally a bit secretive, being the right place and the right time with the Wii, Please Understand, involved with Smash Bros/Kirby [Sakurai too], Pokemon [his programming was needed in Gold/Silver/Crystal], programming plenty of games before becoming the boss, the amiibos and the Nintendo Directs were great along with Shibata who give a personal feel to what is essentially PR news. Plus he tried to diversify with the Quality of Life project [whether that is still happening remains to be seen] and the upcoming project NX. Last year, Hiroshi Yamauchi passed away too who I was also felt sore that he was gone since he was what made Nintendo the well known company that is today. I am worried that some point in the future, something will happen to Mr. Miyamoto since he made Mario and Donkey Kong, being a big impact in my life.

Even though I haven't played many HAL games and skipped after the Gamecube era until the Wii U so growing up I didn't relate to him unlike Miyamoto or Yamauchi on the Nintendo side [only saw 1 Kirby game once], I did play Super Smash Bros and Melee, really liking those two games very much. Melee was my most played GC game so I thank him, Sakurai and the rest of HAL for an enjoyable series that to its day is one of the backbone Nintendo series.

Also today I played Revenge of the Gator, little known GB pinball game by HAL as a small tribute. There are no credits in the game however since it was a HAL game, Iwata worked on it in some form whether programming or on the producing side.

Not only was he a brilliant programmer, but remember when Iwata took a 50% pay cut due to poor Wii U sales?

You know ... I'm aware this isn't really the place to be suggesting this, but I think it would be really great if DYKG did an episode about him as tribute. Especially since I realize ... aside from a few specific accomplishments, I don't actually know all that much about him. I think it would make people happy.
