Dazz's Big Thread Of !!!HELP!!!
#1
Hey guys,

So I'm currently looking at a huge batch of titles that have been given to me kindly by a friend. I was hoping some of you might be able to help. I'll start off with just this format from the PS3 game "Chaos;Child".

So that this thread may be of some use to those in the future, the files are all stored in simple .cpk files. These can be extracted using Noesis. Out pops a bunch of PNG files.
I'll write up something properly on the Wiki after there's more progress on the next step.

The "chara.cpk" file will pop out a bunch of png files, and a bunch of associated .lay files. I'm curious as to whether, who knows, these are short for ".layout"... The png files look like this:

See the zip file here for a small selection of files to check out:

Tsunami Bomb - The Simple Truth
We could run away
Leave behind anything paper
Not knowing where we're going to stay
When there's no Mondays

You're part of me, it's so easy to see the simple truth
When I'm in your arms, I feel safe from harm and sorrow too
You're part of me, it's so easy to see the simple truth
But most of all, nothing couldn't be solved when I'm with you

Here's a program to organize them.
Run the jar.
Drag the "Layout" file on to the window.
It would try to find a png that shares it's name minus the underscore.

Then it will export a folder with all the possible arrangements. It will take a minute because the pngs are large.

If anyone would prefer command line for batch ripping, I can whip that up too.

If it's easy to whip up, that'd be cool as an option. There are around 600 .lay and .png combinations...

Actually exploring this game more, I am under the impression that... I probably shouldn't rip from it. It's quite an extreme file size that we'd be dealing with (several hundred mb for just the backgrounds)
I think that the best option would be to explain how to rip from it on our wiki. When you consider the variables for each character's expressions too, it results in some colossal file sizes with the number of images involved. I could likely put the effort in to trim each image and only include the changing part as an insertion option... But even then, we're still looking at 100+mb per character. The game's rips alone would take up 6/7gb of storage space on the server.

The next game is CV: Casting Voice, a PS3 game about voice actors. It looks kind of interesting - the file formats are .pix and .spr files - .pix being a large file, while .spr is pretty small. Looking it up online using the .pix hex code, I'm lead to a Wii game that somebody explored previously using a similar .pix format... But beyond that nothing. I can't even seem to fathom how the graphics might be stored in here. They don't look compressed though.

For the faces, I can probably make it just export the different expressions instead of the full portrait each time. The way they are stored sort of implies that now that I think about it... but it it's still too big...

I can probably make an exporter for the pix format.

The spr ones look like a hassle to figure out, but I might take a look latter and see.

If you can just export the faces alongside the base, that'd be excellent and I could likely sheet those up. They'd be large but usable - at the least I could zip them.

The Pix looks great, I mean I sent you some boring crap to look at but still Tongue
I think the .spr has some relation to the .pix images - not sure how, but I wouldn't worry about those to be honest, they all look to be 3kb max in size. I didn't really even think they'd relate to graphics.

Thank you Ploaj Heart

This can handle some of the PIXs

I built the batch into it. Put it with the pixs you want to convert and just run it and pngs will be made.

The thing is, there are probably more formats than the ones in that zip.
It will generate a text file that will contain the error info (if any).

Edit:

Updated the Chaos;Child thing to export the parts separately.
Same download link as above.
