i feel like the darkest yellow blends with the darkest color of the skin color, thus making the ear appear nonexistent. try to desaturate the darkest yellow.

I tried, but i don't think this really will fix the issue. it might be more practical just to have him keep an earpiece armor bit on.

I think you should put some of the brighter skin tone on his ear

I really like your style and direction, it's very clean. I especially like how well you control proportions.
Looking forward to see more! Thanked by: Valo

same fangame, I'm helping them make x, the x on the right is my own work. Can you guys help me pinpoint what sprite errors may need to be touched up in my version? I want to make sure it's polished before I sheet it. I'd like not to mess with the design itself though, unless a detail is just plain unreadable

you might not like the edit i did but personally, i had a hard time trying to understand what I was looking at. there's too many stray pixels and selout and I honestly didn't think they were adding any detail. I also took the liberty to remove the white lines on his chest because it was too harsh on the eyes and it really didn't represent anything for me (it's hard to make out what that's supposed to be). i toned down on the harshness a lot without lowering the actual visual detail of the sprite, though it's up to you if you want to follow it or not

The project lead wants to keep the lines on the chest. its meant to just be a white X, if you can help me figure a way to keep that detail and improve it in the limited working space i'd appreciate it. I can try to limit the selout more.

Gor's edit is much better. The hands look more well-defined and the design looks like an upgrade of X's sprite without being cluttered with details. Even though the new design conflicts with the lead's creative vision, sometimes the artist might know what's best for them.
Also to note, when Keiji Inafune was designing characters for older systems he always made sure the design translated to a clean and recognizable sprite. The white X would work on a 32-bit sprite or 3D model, but its hard to make out in this resolution. |
