The yellow/orange is a bit blinding. Maybe the orange used to shade it could be a little less saturated? Or whatever you think works best for the style you're going for.

I have to agree, there.
I'll also say, though, that's just a problem with some colors. What's really sad is the color does work well, it's just so damn bright. Perhaps try making that bright yellow just a bit less bright, without changing anything else, if possible. I'd hate to see what this looks like one one of those new LED or Plasma screens that are EXCESSIVELY bright to begin with...

I personally disagree on my own,and after asking a few other 3rd parties, though it is very possibly to vary based on monitor and settings. If either of you have a palette to try i'd gladly give it a go a bit of progress

Maybe something like this? With your palette it's very hard to look at for an extended period of time and almost looks like his hair is glowing or something

I think it really might be a monitor related issue, of the people i've polled none really seem to feel it is annoying on the eyes.

It might also be eye-specific to some extent.
iirc, Mojang changed the MineCraft lava texture in part because its bright yellow phase seriously hurt some peoples' eyes. However, what I said about monitors still holds true. Newer screens are by default, excessively bright. What's weird is that right now, your sprite is not bothering my eyes. That said, the problem could even be from eyes adjusting to light, or being exposed to it for certain amounts of time, or whatever the case may be.

this is significantly more tedious than I'd imagined it'd be.

Outlines are too thick, well, to me.
Otherwise, great work! EDIT: It'd move the left hand a bit more left to create a silhouette to show it. Could easily be seen as a part of his pants(?) right now. Thanked by: Valo

I'd suggest shrinking the eyes a bit so they don't touch the helmet.
