The sprites themselves look ok, but the yellow background is a bit bright and too, well, yellow, for this purpose. Try something less vibrant.

No. There is no such thing custom edited sprite. Either you used a pre-made base, eyeballed or not (edit) or fully original (custom).

as for the sprites themselves, I think you should use the adult sprites as base, because they are too small (almost like midgets).
