This...looks promising O_O
Please tell me there's potato-themed jokes all over planned out for the story, i.e. the king of the potato kingdom has a sour cream moustache and wishes to uphold Chive-alry, and there's a temptress villain who thinks the hero is a Total Spud (but the hero can't tell if that's a compliment [stud] or an insult [dud])

Why Thank you, I'll be sure to keep everyone up to date!
I have joked around about similar things, but I am totally going to jot those down so I can reference them at a later point. Though humor is something I want to be actively present in the final game.
Thanks for commenting and for the ideas.

Update:
- Touching up the animations/their code 85%-Done (Artwork is almost finished, code is not far behind)
- Designing the first 5 levels for the Tech Demo 15%-Done (4 Levels and a Boss Battle)
- Polishing older features 60%-Done (Spin Attack mostly, needs a cooldown.)
- Designing Overworld-Map 70%-Done (Needs more artwork)
- Sound Effects/Music .002%-Done (This will be the longest portion of the work.. maybe just placeholders.)
After all of this is finished I will release the first Tech Build publicly.
Edit wanted to show some more work:

Please Note: I do not know if I can "bump" after 24hours; though I suppose its not just a "bump".
Instead I have the first GIF, that will display tons of buggy/not finished features/artwork..
Also just got finished adding Controller Support.
Please if you have any suggestion please comment, whilst I still have ideas of my own; I truly want this to be a game that others will remember and enjoy for years to come, just like the snes games!

I'm unsure by just looking at the gif, but it appears the map is fully player controlled, I would suggest maybe doing it in a way similar to mario bros 3 or world, where in the player just taps a direction and then the map cursor auto follows the path to the next stopping point. I only recommend this because i can recall similar gameplay experiences using maps as you have it right now and getting annoyinlyg stuck in corners where the map turns. disregard if I'm wrong or ou've already taken measures to avoid that. Also, what is the ultimate goal of the little spud dude? Are they seeking the troof?

When you trigger the blockade to rise, you should make the transition smoother. You could have the camera interpolate to the blockade or maybe fade out/in if it's very far away.

Edit.. Ill fix this reply later, damn quote deleted my message...
Short version:
The map will have snap to grid to fix that. Story hasn't been decided but a simple plot has been.
(The evil in the game is known as the rot, though this game is not solely about food and will be more fantasy.)
You will be accompanied by many companions as the journey goes.
Sorry for a lousy reply, but it messed up and deleted my original message, and I don't have time to retype it ;-;
Thanks for commenting Valo!
Edit 2: @Shyguy that is a great suggestion, I think fading in and out will suffice and I will try and get that done when I get home!
gameplay element: It appears that the potato can spin forever (or too long). Limit it so it gets more balanced and challenging (you can even add a 'dizzy' animation if the player keeps spinning too much)

Thanks for the suggestion; At the moment, the player can indeed spin forever but it will have a stamina bar to go with it later on. I was just having trouble with the coding side of it, but when I release the demo it should be fully functional.
Other things to note:
-Fixed the Over-world movement as suggested by Valo
-Working on the fade in/out on the switch as suggested by TheShyGuy
-Gonna finish the stamina bar/dizziness threshold as suggested by Gors
-Currently working on the Main-Menu
Will hopefully have some more artwork/gifs to showcase later this evening.

I use a program called gifcam. Finding a link to it that doesn't try to install adware can be sorta difficult in my experience, I'll send you the base exe in a moment via pm . It is a freeware program,so that shouldn't be an issue.

Given the angle that moustache at least on the portrait shouldn't be straight like that, each side should be more or less the same distance from the eyes or it looks oddly angled.
Maybe the hearts on the interface should have a dark outline so they stand out well all the time.
