Shit is happening
#46
So there was an active shooter at my college today. I thought this was the appropriate place to post

Don't worry, I'm okay, it happened on the other side of campus. However, I'm kind of freaked the fuck out

Well the guy drove up on the lawn of the Student Union (a large building in the middle of the school where a lot of students congregate) and started to do donuts. He got out of his truck and started to wave his shotgun around, and had propane tanks in his truck. He was quickly swarmed by police before anything violent happened, but he stayed in his truck during an hour long stand off.

He also made a Facebook post the day before saying how he would go from suicidal to homical. I have a screenshot of it, actually.

^ Likewise. That guy sounded like an absolute fucking nutjob...though it also sounds like he wasn't actually planning on doing anything; he just wanted attention.
Well, I mean he got the attention he wanted after all. I sure hope the fines and possible jail time were worth it!!!

But yeah, it's good to hear you're alright regardless and that things didn't even escalate

Shit's still happening but it's not a direct threat of violence, but it's...uh well it's political stuff and you know exactly who and what I'm going to talk about. Should America go through with this, shit could very well be happening.

I feel like I'm taking an easy potshot here (and I feel like I wanna make an offshoot topic about politics, eventually) but uh I've been listening to Donald Trump (y'know, the current Republican frontrunner for president of the US, whose rallies are a incredible source of xenophobia and racism) talking at debates, rallies, and other things for the past half hour and...is it just me, or does he really not say anything? I mean, you can argue that a lot of politicians lie, but for someone who "tells it like it is"...he doesn't really say anything.

Donald Trump Wrote:I can be more presidential than anybody. I can be more presidential, if I want to be - I can be more presidential...than anybody. You know, when I have sixteen people coming at me from sixteen different angles, uh you don't wanna be so presidential; you have to win, you have to beat 'em back, right? And, uh, and - but, I would say more presidential and I've said this a couple of times - more presidential than anybody other than the great Abe Lincoln. He was very presidential, right?

TLDR:
  • Donald Trump can be very presidential.
  • Trump argues that sometimes you have to be "not presidential" in the face of adversary.
  • Abraham Lincoln was very, very presidential.

This guy is literally shitposting at a podium. He never really says anything. All of his sentences are literally

> statement
> statement second time
> brief opinion
> statement third time
> statement fourth time
> if at a rally or debate, asserts he can do it better than anyone/"I'll make America great again" so people will applause
> otherwise, throws out a red herring so people will applause despite it being completely unrelated to his statement.

How are people so godawfully oblivious to the fact that he's basically soapboxing during his presidential campaign and literally not saying anything besides "I'll build a wall but Mexico will have to pay for it" and "God I hate Muslims"

I should probably throw this out there but is anyone on VGR who would/actually vote for Trump? We totally won't shit on you for your opinion, but I haven't heard a single intelligent statement for why someone would, other than "Because he is". I'm not sure anyone in our age demographic really could identify with him actually; hell Bernie Sanders is almost 75 years old and I feel like I could relate to him better than anyone in this dumpass race.

Bernie Sanders knows how I feel and he could be my grandpa. How does that even work

Because politics isn't about policy. It's about sounding tough and powerful, and like a leader. And that's what Trump is good at, even if he has nothing to back it up. And since people are dumb, they go along with it, because it's our stupid base animal instinct to.

Another question worth asking is "Would you vote for Trump if doing so meant voting against Hillary?".

This is why a lot of people do not vote, too...

My sister brought this up a few weeks ago.
Voting is no longer really about who is actually best for the job, or worthy of it, but who is the lesser of two evils, or does the less damage.

I'm not sure I'd vote for either, assuming I even could be bothered to register. Right now... well, I don't even see a reason to when all these guys are either corrupt, racist/elitist, are tyrants, or even have some serious scandal. (a scandal/controversy that isn't simply the typical mud-slinging commonly, and excessively, practiced in politics.)

There's my $0.02

*Meekly raises hand*

Early on in the campaign, I often joked about how the race would boil down to Trump vs. Hillary. And once that became a very real possibility, I decided I'd vote Hillary if things came down to it. However, after I found out about all the shifty stuff she's done concerning her campaign donations, it became the tipping point for me and I think I'd vote for Trump instead. I think both of the front-runners are incredibly corrupt, but Trump is the lesser of the two evils since he's too thick-headed to cover things up...

With that being said, my first choice would be Bernie Sanders since he has a lot of political experience. But since I live in a fiercely Republican state, I voted for Ted Cruz in the primaries since that was my most realistic bet at taking down Trump. Speaking of which...

*Looks up primary results from my state*

Good grief. Trump and Hillary won by a landslide. I feel so ashamed of my state right now.  Cry

From what I understand, here are some of beliefs that I could see would cause someone that's not an idiot to support him

•Supports single payer healthcare
•No income tax for families earning 50k a year or less
•Said he wouldn't take a salary as a president
•Doesn't think Planned Parenthood is evil
•Doesn't think gay people are evil
•Some people do believe in a more secure border
•Iirc, supports amnesty for illegal immigrants and a path to citizenship if not a felon
•Cruz and Kasich are fucking insane

That's what supporters have told me, atleast

Similarly relevant

It's strange how reddit is the only place on the net I've found some serious opinions from Trump supporters, especially considering how pro-Bernie the site is.

Though reddit seems more like their answer is "I just want to watch the world burn"

touché.
it seems like we're doomed no matter what lmao

though that scenario, really is like if you're on fire and you've got the option to douse yourself with either one of two containers:
  • a barrel of extracted waste from a septic tank
  • a barrel of lead-tainted water
and you're opting for the waste barrel because you read that drinking lead-tainted water will kill you Blank

You...might wanna read up on how the primaries work. I'll explain it in a bit.

EDIT: whew OK I'm back. If your sister's voting for Democrats...well, here's what going on over there:

This looks like Hillary Clinton's in the lead by a huge margin, right? Right. Because she has the big blue bar.
They're actually pretty equal at the moment. The cyan bar is what matters. That blue bar is the amount of superdelegates (elected officials and party elders who each count toward the magic number of 2,383) she has, which means very little. The "pledged delegates" are those awarded proportionally by congressional districts from primary and caucus results - and the superdelegates can switch over, and those usually depend on the popular vote. As in, if Bernie magically wins the polls in other states (or a coin toss, by how things are going, jesus) that blue bar will grow on his side and slowly disappear from Hillary's side.

So uh yeah we actually do influence the polls - especially so during the primaries, because it's gonna result in who's going to be president. The Republican nominations though are kind of a lost cause at this point though lol.
