If You Could Change Things In Games...

As long as there continues to be little kids who like games where they can just jump around and collect coins, I can't see the New Super Mario Bros. series stopping for quite some time. But who knows when they'll make a new aesthetic for the franchise - I'm hoping that I live to see one.

This is just wishful thinking, but I'd really enjoy Nintendo 3DS games more if they went back to the Nintendo DS style of polygonal graphics. I don't know why, but it just gives off simple, bright and colorful visuals - whereas 3DS graphics are a bit more heavily-textured and in a way, have a slightly darker aesthetic.

itd be cool if the weaker people in ssbm were buffed. its kinda dumb how kirby is basically unusable compared to fox in the game.

I really feel that Xenoblade X missed out on having some Amiibo support, considering the fact that there is already an existent Shulk amiibo, not to mention a really obvious and likely easy-to-implement use for them they could have went with. All they had to do is copy Hyrule Warriors' example and have Amiibos offer semi-random drops, with the Shulk amiibo offering rarer drops than the others. It seems so simple that it just kind of feels lazy on their part, especially considering that Hyrule Warriors was released seven months prior to Xeno's Japanese release.

I'm not saying it's a change I would really FORCE on them, since it's not really that big of a deal. But it just seems kind of ... oddly absent, when compared to other titles Nintendo's been pushing over the past year.

That's pretty ridiculous honestly, when are they gonna make another Xenoblade? Not anytime soon I imagine so why the fuck is it not compatible??

Here's one for ya. I would have the named npcs for your settlements in Fallout 4 come with a muzzle. I purposefully didn't do one of the first missions in the game which creates a faction because a lot of the characters from that faction take up one of the biggest settlements in the game, and most of those people are useless and passive aggressive.

Being a heavy Puyo Puyo player, I have to say...being able to move, or rotate, over the high columns at the top of the screen without having to build a high column with one Puyo less next to it. It always gets in my way when I'm building a huge chain.

Donkey Kong 94. I'dve delayed it for the Gameboy Color, and put the mega color on it, instead of waiting on the Super Game Boy. It's okay in black and white, but it'd be much better in color, with all the environments Mario visits in it, I'dve liked to see them fully realized in color properly. It also needs a nice HD remake.........

Zelda 2. Link's sword range sucks, and is like a butter knife. Make it longer.

Every other Zelda Game: Debuff the potions and fairies. The games are always way too easy as it is, why have such overpowered handicaps?

Because the games are designed for all ages. They want children to be able to beat the games too.

If you don't like the handicaps, just don't use them. I never bother with potions when I play Zelda games.

That's not an excuse; harder games exist than that and children have beaten them in the NES and Arcade days, like Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania. Have gamers really gotten that soft?

Do you really think it was that common for kids to beat those difficult games back then? No, it was a rare feat only accomplished by those with obsessive levels of dedication. The lucky kids that managed to pull it off got a lot of bragging rights at the schoolyard because the games seemed so damn impossible to everyone else.

Over the years companies like Nintendo have wised up to realize that everyone wants to be able to beat their games, not just a handful of elites. That is why games have gotten easier over the years, not because gamers have gotten soft, but because games have been designed to be more fair for everyone.

Also worth noting that modern Zelda games have included Hero Mode to make a more difficult experience. I know that Windwaker HD includes it right off the bat, and it is HARD.

It also makes fairies a little less common I think, I'm not a hundred percent sure of that. I think what would be a cool change is Hero level of difficult for all Zelda games. It gives the potential for challenge for those who want it badly.

If we're talking about Zelda games specifically, there are always lots of ways hardcore gamers can challenge themselves even without the presence of a "Hard Mode". You can limit the number of heart containers you acquire. You can ignore armor upgrades, or item upgrades. You can ignore all nonessential items. You can limit the number of bottles you acquire, putting a cap on how many potions you can carry. You can ignore heart drops. Et cetera et cetera.

Play Super Mario Maker. It gives you an idea of how the consumer side of the market currently looks.
There will be bullshit stages, because players feel the need to fill that niche (or just want to be assholes). The most popular stages however are the insultingly easy ones and even then a large chunk manages to die there. REPEATEDLY!!!

Looking at the most recent Mario games, there are things for both the masters of gaming and the digitally impaired.
On one side, we have things like Star Coins, which are often in places that further challenges the player's platforming abilities and unlock rewards, but aren't required to beat the game.
On the other side, there's the "I win" power-up for those who get very stuck and want to advance really bad. They get to play the next level and don't have to resort to perma-rage-quitting the game.
Complaining about an optional feature that makes the game easier is selfishly elitist. "A baby can beat the game now, so it's a baby's game." Have you tried getting all the Star Coins? Or did the filthy casuals take that away from you? I know we're dealing with "What if" situations here, our ideas on how to improve the games we love, but in the end, it's not YOUR game. It's EVERYONE'S game.

I'm sorry for being so overly blunt, but that's my two cents on the matter.

Just my two cents, but I think the Zelda games are pretty much at the perfect level of difficulty, not considering the older ones with some of their bullshit enemy battles.
