[Request] "Animators Resource" section

First off, I want to thank this site for an awesome place to gether models, textures, sounds, sprites, and sometimes more.

Currently, Ohana3DS Rebirth has added in some animation ripping support, with more support to come in the future.
for example, I am active in the testing and reporting of issues with Ohana, and as noted by the following link, am pushing for pokemon animation support for pokemon alone as of now (until I can locate npc animations for example, which relies on issue #13 being fixed)

One of the biggest drawbacks of 3D is animating. While animation in general isn't too difficult to achieve, someone who has a project like mine that requires a minimum of 5 animations x 151+ models can become tedious, and even good quality animations can become tedious for a single model.

While this section would mainly start off with 3ds animations, an original content section would help push more original works, allowing people to share free animations for any project.

Another pro to this would be it can encourage rippers with the right skills to develop tools for ripping animations for games that currently do not have such tools, including PS1/2/3, PC, NDS, PSP, etc

I considered the fact that animations are not limited to skeletons of models, and came up with a structure for organization:
a user must specify on upload what type of ripped animations these are (skeletal, material, camera, etc). They also must provide an image and reference of the model in question.

The custom section should have some form of readme which informs the user of the naming scheme for the animation. this will allow people to adjust the names of the models ones accordingly for compatibility.

Using a simple gif can display the animation, and the end user can initiate it to play, preventing slow load speeds and bandwidth issues.

I am interested in hearing the community's thoughts on this, and will provide many animations as I rip them in the future for pokemon OR/AS/X/Y once supported. I will also provide my custom animations since my project is open source, as noted by my upload of "Map Objects" in OR/AS in the models section, with more to come.

Animations from games are often more difficult to rip from games. Most of the time, people downloading models from the resource, often create the animations themselves. If the rippers choose to rip animations, and include them in their rips, that's their choice to do so. Not just on the models resource. but the Textures and Sprites resource. I just don't think having a separate site for animations only is worth it; it will take up precious server space, and may even be devoid of content. I'm all for animations being added, but I don't think this is the way to do it.

Your comment makes a lot of sense, and I actually didn't consider that animation ripping was that hard to do. I understood the server side of things, and due to this I propose another option: to add animations as an additional section to the models resource on a per game basis, thus eliminating an entirely new section.

The lack of a section for this makes sharing animations tedious, and including them in currently uploaded models is going to be a lot of work for MR staff, not to mention pushing credits and whatever else. I can foresee an issue later without a subsection for animations provided for already uploaded models.

Granted, programs like 3DS Max can (and from what I can tell does) embed animations into the models themselves, but if the animations from the game are ripped separately and the requirement is to embed them, it causes further issues, thus the reason I didn't find that to be an option.

As it stands, I personally would love to see a section dedicated for animations, whether it be a per game basis on the models resource, or a section dedicated to animations.
As mentioned before, taking a single model and doing one or two simple animations isn't all that difficult. The real problem comes into play when you have hundreds of animations to program. Having a section to share them whether with the models, or independently allows members at least something basic to go from, rather than having to do everything by hand from scratch. If a member wants to do original animations, that is still possible too.

This is my reasoning for bringing this up and making a poll Wink

Do note that regardless of the decision, I WILL be hosting the animations somewhere. I figured bringing this up and getting something figured out in advance would be beneficial to this site.
