I don't think we have one of these yet.

Hopefully I'm not the only who reads comics. Aha... So I thought it would be cool to have a comics thread like we do for movies/anime/games. What is everybody reading?

To be honest I'm not really keeping up with anything current as far as monthlies... I find it difficult for me to keep track of a series from one week/month to the next without forgetting about it in the intervening time (the only exceptions being some shows, but even those I tend to let build up and binge at various intervals throughout the season). The only comics I read as they update are Dumbing of Age, which I kind of just found by accident one day, and Cyanide & Happiness. But those update daily... so even though I want to be into other comics like TwoKinds, I don't usually keep up with them and end up just binging through a year's worth of updates on a random weekend.

Right now my "Big Comic" series that I'm working on finishing is something First Comics published in the mid-1980s called "Mars". I picked up an issue at Free Comic Book Day a couple of years ago, and it was interesting enough for me to order the graphic novel collection (in paperback unfortunately... the hardcover is stupid expensive).

It's an interesting scifi tale that isn't very heavy reading, but it covers some interesting concepts (like technology assisting human beings in overcoming physical handicaps). Even though it sometimes strays a little too far into "Acid Trip" territory, I'm actually going to recommend it--particularly to people who are interested in comic books but aren't really into either the manga or superhero scenes.

If we're throwing web comics in the mix, I've got Paranatural in my signature just waiting for ya. It reminds me of Shaman King without a lot of the grim dark drama or Saturday morning appeal.

I've been following the IDW TMNT series since they came out. I prefer waiting for the paperbacks as collecting single issues is a chore.
What's cool about this version is that it's like all things we love about TMNT blended into a mashup of the Mirage originals, 1987 animated series, the 4Kids series, films, and Archie comics. The first character they fight is a cat mutant named Old Hob who later becomes an anti-hero ally leading this universe's Mutanimals. The Attack on Technodrome story arc ends with a shocking conclusion, so I won't spoil it.
2014 was a good year for the comic: They officially crossed over with the Ghostbusters as a 30th anniversary celebration for both franchises.
Will indeed buy the paperback of the Batman crossover once it's out. That being a thing is way too awesome.
Another cool thing is how the upcoming game, Mutants in Manhattan, borrows elements from it. Plus it's developed by Platinum Games.

Other comics I plan of collecting are the upcoming Darkwing Duck. Some Spawn, Alien, Predator, and Ghostbusters collections.
And get back to collecting the rest of the Paperbacks of Garfield, Mega Man, Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Donald Duck hardcovers.

I don't read comics very often but the one I most recently enjoyed was Buck Godot. Apparently, it's an old classic so I'm not sure how many people know about it. The art hasn't aged terribly well over the past 30 years but the story is great and writing is excellent.

I was a huge fan of Archie's main Sonic series. Especially during around 2004-2006. When Mobius: 25 Years Later came out, I was just in love! I could not stop reading from there!! Then things kinda mellowed out in like late 2007, and I eventually moved on to other things like manga and anime :/. I admit, they put endless amounts of work into it, both writing and visuals. But they just don't wow me like they used to.

Do graphic novels count for this topic, too? While I read comics too, I got into reading the Amulet series by Kazu Kibuishi ever since I bought the first one at Barnes & Noble, and I got myself hooked.

Before I got into that, it was the Bone series (in color) by Jeff Smith during the Book Fair in high school. Both are quite amazing. B)

Graphic novels definitely count. Sprite comics, too. Basically any form of the medium is A-OK.

Thought I'd bump this thread to bring up some controversy that has happened recently.

Behold: Marvel's ultimate dick move!

Steve Rogers revealed to be a Hydra agent all along!

The above spoiler has caused a major uproar to the point Chris Evans is pissed off about it as well. It really is a punch in the face towards Jack Kirby and Joe Simon who created the character as a message to tell Americans to fight the Nazis, and it is a huge insult to their heritage.
Writer Nick Spencer is to blame for this whole mess. And yes, his social media accounts are full of angry mobs of fans.

It's also most likely Marvel will retcon it to please fans like they have with previous controversial stories.
And you know this kind of plot twist is this bad and hated when people are mocking it everywhere.

The only comics I tend to read lately are the ones in the newspaper, and that is still pretty rare.
On occasion, I view web comics, and I have had a few recommended to me.

A friend in school actually introduced me to the Amulet series.

I'm sure there are other noteworthy ones, but my memory is quite fuzzy about them, unfortunately

one of the first graphic novels i read (before dragon ball) was a pocket manga version of Ninja High School by Ben Dunn. it's mostly japanese manga-style but it does have its american comicisms since it's based on a comic. it introduced me to an alternative style of anthropomorphism and opened my eyes to the furry community. (tmi, sorry bout that)
