Know any "unrippable" games? I'm great at breaking things
#61
Hmm, do you think it would at all be possible to rip from this? It's mostly just the map I'm interested in.

shockwave games created before a certain version had a bit of an exploit that allowed them to be re-saved as a .dir file.
i think supersonic rc has this vulnerability, but i'm not certain.
I also am pretty sure supersonic rc has multiple files

Basically, you'd need to run the .dcr's through a program called diropener
You'd run any .cct files through a program called recovercct.
If you want, I can put them somewhere, they've almost vanished entirely from the interwebz
The next step is not so painless.

You'd need to buy or pirate Adobe Director
This is as far as I can take you, I've not worked with the 3d lego shockwave games, yet. That said, I know nothing about ripping models, specifically. Sorry.
As much as I can say is that you'll need to configure an external editor for them, probably, and then 'edit' them externally. (only, once it's open in your editor, you just save it to...wherever) This tends to be the process for actually extracting resources from a .dir most of the time.

I think I recall DirOpener, I may have tried it on another game or something (it's definitely in my history). I'll be using the DirOpener from here, latest version number.
Anyhow, I currently have the file under the folder /game/ on my desktop and when I select the file in DirOpener it then tells me it wants GUILibrary.cst - the title bar says "Where is C:\Documents and Settings\Lucas\Desktop\RacersRC\GUILibrary.cst?" (isn't Documents&Settings a WinXP thing? xP). I pressed cancel serveral times (received and error saying "Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA every time) and eventually produced a file called "dirOpened output of game.dir". After that I then proceeded to download the trial version of the latest Adobe Director (I hope this will do) and then tried opening the file, it told me the project was old and needed to be updated to a newer version, so I did that (I was presented with options). In the end it turns out I  was fooled, that .dir file that came out turned out to just be a .dir of dirOpener. xD
Oh, and no .cct files came out. ;P

So yeah, that's where I am now.
Oh and, yeah I would like that recovercct regardless.

Edit: Found this program which ripped some images and the music, but nothing more: http://forum.xentax.com/blog/?p=62

right...xtras...

lemme go grab the entire game from another site, and attempt this myself
ignore the 'where is the .cst' file things, it will still export.

yeah, little word of advice: that program is annoying, it works, but not entirely in the way you'd expect

I tried downloading Jaeder Naub once, the AV flipped-out and nearly crashed the computer...
That, or I found a compromised download.
Either way, not trying that again anytime soon.
Also, shockwave format is closed-source, and almost everything isn't stored in its traditional format, or any way by which a tool will actually be able to extract the contents.

anyways, i'll try busting the game open for you, but you'll have to do any actual ripping, yourself. i'm not able to get director installed right now.

update: i can't use diropener, the new file is never appearing. i 100% suspect the antivirus is doing this, but yeah... that's a no-go. i'll just send my copies of both tools, and the full game...

update #2:
http://crystalien-redux.com/unrelated/ET...ippers.zip
This version already has xtras installed to diropener.
Now, with recover-cct, you actually have to specify the input file twice... don't ask why.

Now, here's the other file for the game:
http://cache.lego.com/eng/games/racers/s...ibrary.cct
Based off it's name, you won't be wanting or needing it, but just in case...

I'm surprised these files are still up, LEGO has recently pulled the plug completely on several old games.

Oh, if anyone can help or is interested, I determined that the rom.bin file in Bionicle Heroes isn't actually too large, so I have extracted it from the rom. Providing it for download should also be possible. Anyways, if someone can figure-out how to extract that file's contents, and then crack the .dat files it supposedly contains, it'd be much appreciated. I think once it's down to just the model and texture files, I'll be able to continue on my own.

You know, I've actually been requested to rip from BH before, it's just too bad I don't actually own the game otherwise I'd be right on board for ripping the models!

In regards to your other post, I'll check out that stuff later when I'm not at work. Wink

Update: A new file isn't being created for me either with the version you linked, I assume this is linked to the "The ordinal 1333 could not be located in the dynamic link library IML32.dll" error I get when trying to start the program.
Edit: Went to Shockwave's install directory and copied said .dll to .exes folder and the error went away. The files still did not generate though, to top it off I went to an anti-virusless partition as well. So there I sisconfirmed your anti-virus theory. Tongue
As well, I decided to install shockwave 8.5 and copy the Xtra files from there since that's what the program runs on, still no go.

The sims 3 PC Ninja ripper works??

Now that's just plain weird...

it used to work just fine...

@Breno; The only way to get an answer to that is to try it!

@DG; Hmm. Can you go into a bit more details of what your computer environment was like at the time it worked?

I have no idea, tbh...

Lots of things, big and small, have changed.

Here's the rom.bin from bionicle heroes for the DS
I split it because our file uploader sometimes fails with larger files

I'd imagine anyone with a hex editor or similar can just stitch the complete file back together, seeing as I used one in order to split it.

http://crystalien-redux.com/unrelated/ET...m_dot_bin/

The filename was changed in case I had any naming conflicts in the folder I initially dumped the file to. I'd think it doesn't matter, but if it does, well... I've already mentioned the original file name several times....lol

Maybe the Gameloft MLP game? The models from that have not been ripped from as far as I know.

This thread is useless. Telesentry hasn't done anything. It's basically become the go-to model rip request thread (especially for users without sufficient priveleges), even though there's no one taking them on.

The only two privilege lacking requests so happened to be in a single day, today. Everyone else for quite a while beforehand (not gonna bother surfing the entire topic) was qualified.

No change of computer, OS, or shockwave installation? Those would probably be the most helpful to know.

I have mixed feelings about this.
I wouldn't say the entire thread is useless.
You're definitely right that most of the requests here have been quite justified.
I do have to admit, though, no one appears to be actually fulfilling any requests or doing investigating into the game/formats, aside from the people who requested it to begin with /:

As I said, things big and small have changed.
Since I rarely deal with software issues like this one, I don't keep a log of every version of everything.
Shockwave has been changed at some point. The last time I updated it, World Builder became totally unplayable due to weird glitches. The OS doesn't receive updates anymore. The AV has been attempting to update, and has failed multiple times. Stuff is appearing in the temp files that wasn't before. I wish I knew why this was happening. But if my copies of diropener AND recover-cct didn't work on your computer, either... IDK, could be something to do with shockwave, maybe? I'm gonna need to find a solution, though, because I have some Shockwave games I really want to rip. without diropener and recover-cct working, I absolutely cannot... /:
