Some are males... oh ok i realize i'm about to set foot on some thin ice here, but let me try to explain this as briefly as possible. your argument is kinda...silly. sure, egalitarianism is a fairly good concept, but the idea (or, an egalitarian themselves) is kinda unproductive. it's kinda ok, let me put it this way: our world is fucked up. there is legitimately a problem that women face in our society. in our culture. in other cultures. there is injustice. and women, as well as other minorities (which is an argument for another time) are oppressed. egalitarians, say things like "well, if i hired workers of both sexes, i'd pay them equally". which is...great. that's one workplace down...and 50,000 left to go. you're doing good! but you've got some work to do!! feminists, generally, are the group who say "hey! women should be able to vote! women should not be judged by what they wear! women should be allowed to wear what they want! women should be paid equally to men!!" etc. because as of right now, there's a social stigma within our society that's sloped more towards men. people refer to that as the "patriarchy". think of a balancing scale, where the scales are literally tipped in favor of men. remember the work i said you had to do?? these people are fighting for it!! feminists, basically, are arguing/fighting for things that we as a society SHOULD do, in order to tip the scales in favor of women a little more so that it IS equal. and that's fine. when you've been oppressed for about 2000+ years in all forms of media, you'd probably want to speak up, too. maybe when we're finally a post-sex, post-race, post-gender, post-secular society, egalitarianism might work out just dandy for us. tl;dr we're a fucked up society and if we were already pretty equal, egalitarianism would be a great stance - and it's also human! but the problem is that there's still prejudice in the world. there's still slavery, and there's still hatred based in arbitrary things. and people are passionate to fight for their rights to not be oppressed, enslaved, or killed for their beliefs, skin color, biological sex, etc. that's what activism is. they're active. i mean, i don't like the modern third-wave radical feminism you see on the internet either - it's pretty annoying to sift through. but like you can't blame people when they're trying to fight this uphill battle that half of America pretends doesn't exist (06-14-2016, 02:21 PM)psychospacecow Wrote: Iceland is green and Greenland is icy. Egalitarianism isn't about sitting back and doing nothing, it's about looking at all the angles. I would say that feminism is a more focused entity that exists under the egalitarian umbrella than to say they are distinct or opposing forces. So when I see "I am a feminist" I see "I care only about women's rights," but when I see "I am an egalitarian" I see "I care about everybody's unique situation."

I feel like this accurately describes it. Besides that, peanuts are legumes rather than nuts.

How come when you cook cured pork... It's called bacon, but when you bake sweetened dough it's called cookies?
