I don't play a lot of RPGs but when I do, I rarely 100% them for the reasons listed above.

The games I do usually 100% are, unsurprisingly, Nintendo titles. Because getting all the Star Coins in NSMB or Scanning all the enemies in Metroid Prime or finding all the treasure in Pikmin 2 is incredibly fun.

Every year I 100% Pikmin 2, usually with different criteria.

This year it was a 8-10 day challenge.

If you still have time to beat a game then you certainly have time to eventually 100% a game. You don't have to do it all at once, just little by little when you have the time. And no, 100% won't give you a better credit score or impress your boss, but neither will playing a video game at all! We do it because it's fun.

Yeah but there's this big problem I have and it's my incredibly huge game collection. Part of it's the fun of collecting games, and I realize that's a personal problem. I'll be honest - yeah there's games that I want to 100%, but most of the time I want to fly through a game, beat it, and if I'm really feeling the urge to play it again I'll try to go for the postgame (which is the 100% completion aspect) But I'm not going to play a game front-to-back and complete it multiple times like some of the people posting in this topic, because I've got over 600 video games begging for my attention, and I'd really like to move on to the next video game with its enthralling story that I just picked up.
...I also don't finish a lot of games for this reason. WHOOPS

I've been migrating my PS1 and PS2 saves to my PC so I can continue playing them in emulators (I literally don't pirate games for PlayStation consoles unless they're extremely hard to find, out-of-region or translation patched) so I've been umm...doing that

Also, once in a while you'll have a cool boss or co-worker who's also a gamer so you COULD argue that 100%ing a game will SOMETIMES impress your boss

You still play video games right? So when you say "what's the fricken point" I laugh and ask "What's the point in playing video games at all?"

Funny story, I hate video games because hardcore gaming pretty much throws your social life into the toilet and so many developers are making it that much more accessible - and competitive online games are pretty much the equivalent of hard drugs.
They're such a wonderful, interactive media, though and much more approachable compared to books or film so I can't really blame them (that's why I play videogames, honestly)

I've got a lot of untouched Steam Games I bought, that I really want to touch, but have just been up to other things lately.  Like...you guys are going to hate me for not touching these, but...Bastion, Shovel Knight, Spelunky.  Barely touched Half Minute Hero 2.  I KNOW they're good games because I've seen them, but I've been playing other games instead.

I don't often buy games, but when I do, I usually play all it the way through 100%, so I get my money's worth (:

The thing is, bonus collectibles and stuff are usually there to extend a game without just making a reeeeally long story mode, and I think they're just as much of a part of the game as the main story mode itself. That would be why a lot of games had you unlock a true ending by getting 100%. In-fact, I usually search for all the secrets and stuff before even finishing the story, so yeah, I've done quite a few games 100%.

Plus I want all I can get out of a game I really like, especially if the game is very unique. So whenever I decide to play through a game I liked again, it's almost always 100%.

Of course because of this, it takes away from my overall enjoyment of a game if I can't get 100%, which is usually because it's too much of a choir, extremely luck based or just generally not fun. Which pretty much means I didn't 100% the few RPGs I've played )X

Sorry Kosheh. I didn't realize you had so many games. I only get four games a year usually. Because I have so few, I spend a huge amount of time on each one.

Also, most of the games I own are Nintendo games which are usually pretty short. I can't believe how quickly I beat Metroid Prime Federation Force.

I only 100% a game if I feel like it. For example, when I play Mega Man 6, I don't collect the Beat parts since I can play the game just fine without them. I have a 100% on Kirby Triple Deluxe just so I can see that satisfying cutscene. My friend is a die-hard completionist, though.

yeye i generally keep up on new releases (so that's maybe like 12 games a year minimum?) but then when I find a game I've got a nostalgiaboner for I'll hunt it down and get it (usually I'll look for a crazy low price)


also it's worth mentioning I used to pirate games a TON, and most of these games I'm getting I'm doing so because I want to play them on official hardware the right way. So most of the games I'm picking up do bear significance 90% of the time
(admittedly i will buy a brand new game because it's like $5 one-day-only but that's really rare)

I've only 100%'d 2 games (at least on Steam), Super Hexagon and Thomas Was Alone, and that's because they don't really have that much to them. I obtained all the collectibles in Psychonauts but there are a couple of achievements I still need to get. I would also consider that I've 100%'d World of Goo, although I did that on a non-Steam version. There are various other games (Puggsy, a couple of LoZ games, others I can't remember) but I don't have a list or anything.

I don't often 100% games, although I usually intend to eventually. However once I've finished the main game, I generally move onto something else and then consider the completion factor as replayability and a reason to come back later and maybe even replay the entire game (e.g. Bastion, Before the Echo, Jamestown). In some games I come back every now and again and chip away at it a little bit each time (e.g. VVVVVV, Super Meat Boy, Runner2).

Some games have the kind of thing like in Super Meat Boy, Lovely Planet and Dustforce where there's the "best" way to finish the level, by beating a certain speed or whatnot. These are things I do often persist in getting, especially in skill-based platformers (like the aforementioned 3 games).
