If you think your prices are bad? Here in Australia, it's $469.95!! And I've only just put $50 on preorder at my EB games.
I've got all of February to keep paying for it. Bad enough that I also have RTX in Sydney on the 4th, which we get to try it out before launch.
(And speaking of RTX. Hideo Kojima's going to be a special guest there! I want his autograph so bad!)

Man, our currency sucks.

Bumping this thread, because I not long got back from RTX. Trying out the Switch for the first time, and I liked what I tried and saw.

1/2 Switch
The mini game I tested was the sword guarding one. Man, do I have sucky reflexes. Tongue
Probably not gonna get this one, seeing it's a bit tricky to get used to at first.

ARMS
Now this one was a surprise. The gameplay with motion controls feels like a more action based version of Wii Sports Boxing.
In my opinion, I think Nintendo might have a promising new IP with this one.
And don't worry. It's been confirmed it plays with standard controls as well.

Ultra Street Fighter II
Same old Street Fighter 2. But with the option to switch between original graphics to those ugly HD Remix sprites.
And you also get Evil Ryu and Violent Ken. Yay, recolours as their own characters. Nothing too special.
It's still fun to play, though.

I didn't try Breath of the Wild, as there was a huge line just for it alone. So I'll wait for it to come out instead.
Ditto with Mario Kart 8.

Im not sold on the switch at all right now tbh. I dont like the current line up of games. Yeah I know its just launching and it has a lot of potential with a ton of 3rd party games already in development, but it still feels lackluster with what it has at the moment. The only interesting launch title I see is Breath of the Wild.

A ton of third party games? You realise the Switch is a Nintendo console, right?

ARMS is looking like a pretty fun game you guys. I love the wacky character designs. My favorite character so far is Mechanica. I know the girl-inside-robot-suit trope has gotten a bit cliche, but I love the fact that they made the armor look fat and jiggly rather than really buff.

Arms looks like it'll be great... for a few weeks... I don't see much substance there.

Also: Zelda - what the hell is with the crazy ass contrast/brightness? I thought we moved on from that 'next-gen' filter crap (at least it isn't doing the 'everything must be brown' I guess...)

Apparently 1-2-Switch has 28 (or something like that) mini games. For £40. They might as well start printing those bargain bin stickers now...

AND - what was with that Super Bowl ad? Like - it was just Zelda. Zelda fans know about Zelda - why didn't they take the opportunity to tell millions about the actual damn console coming out (a console so many do not know about). Hell the original reveal video would have been loads better.

Like, I want the Switch to be good, it's a cool concept (even if separating all the social aspects is a really stupid ass move of inconvenience...) but Nintendo is making some killer dumb decisions here. This is really starting to look like the Dreamcast...

Totally agree, I don't think the Switch will boost Nintendo economy.
Maybe some "Classic Mini" are ready to be used as lifeline... with mummified Marios.

Here we are only twelve days from launch, and there is still so much they haven't told us about the console. Important stuff that I feel lack of information on is dearly going to cost them sales. For example, one of the big ones for me is information about the Virtual Console. Is the visual quality going to be as shitty as it was for the Wii U, or did they fix that issue like they did with the NES Classic? Because I tell ya, without any games for launch, a higher quality VC could make a world of difference if they want decent launch sales. The fact that they haven't mentioned it at all is super suspicious.

No, I don't think it changes anything for global customers.
$60 million spent in Virtual Console in ~2010, more than $712 millions spent on one game (Mario Kart Wii, VGChartz) for the Wii system.(Estimations) As you can see, Virtual Console is minority and don't make real "gross earnings".
You want emulation ? Buy a Raspberry Pi and a gamepad if you're really interested.

I think Nintendo would make more money of it's backlog with a subscription model (like PlayStation Now but actually good).

I mean say the online price was £50 a year - but you got access to EVERY old game (NES, SNES, N64, NGC - everything) - that would be a good deal. And they were all there from day 1.

At the moment Nintendo releasing VC games is like getting blood from a stone. Like F-Zero hit the Wii U as the console was already dead in the water.

Even a '£3' upgrade per game that added functionality like online play, music in Mario Kart 64's 4 player etc would be fine.

Oh, and bloody get a virtual memory card working. No excuse to not be able to have ghost data...

Exactly. (But for Nintendo 64, good luck with 256Mo of RAM)

That would be absolutely brilliant, but I don't think Nintendo is that smart ... plus if that was a feature they surely would be pushing it by now.

I doubt it will be a feature, Nintendo are too guarded with there backlog.

As for modding the NES mini, it's great for NES games, I love it - but after that you might as well just get a Raspberry Pie and RetroPi it - pretty much the next step.

But yeah, it's been a missed opportunity since the Wii really, and although emulation is great, for the general public I think most people would prefer a more official route...
