Can somebody explain to me how to rip files from games?

I have tried to figure it out myself but my progress has been proven unsuccessful. I'm relatively new to 3D modeling in general and I don't have any experience with ripping models.

If someone could give me a guide so I can start to become more self-dependent that would be awesome.

And in case you wanted to know, I use Blender to view 3D models.
I like downloading models and messing around with them on Blender. that's pretty much all I do here hehehe

To be specific, I want to rip models from Super Mario Galaxy 2. But there's a few other games I'd like to rip models from like Mario Kart Wii and Animal Crossing: City Folk.
I like downloading models and messing around with them on Blender. that's pretty much all I do here hehehe

Bump.....

I also was interested in ripping 3DS models in hopes to complete games like Pokemon X/Y/OR/AS/Sun/Moon.

I like messing around on Blender too! I'm looking for some models from Twisted Metal: Black and Twisted Metal: Head-On (both for PS2). The vehicles are the ones I'm after, but I'd also like some battlegrounds as well.

It differs game to game and system to system. Generally speaking you extract from the disc (if needed), extract the archives within the disc (if needed), extract the individual files (if needed) to get at the meshes and/or textures, import them into whatever modeling program has a working script. From there you mess around or convert to other formats. Then there's tools that just rip objects from a running game into a static mesh (no rigging).

Your best bet for finding out how to get at models from a game is googling something like "*insert game title here* xentax/zenhax/vg resource/facepunch". Those are, to my knowledge, the best places to go for general model extraction and searching in that manner should get you links to posts about extracting from said game if it exists. There are also a few fansites that have game specific tools such as Civilization for PC and the WWE 2K__ games (though that one you need to pay for apparently).

There's also a great program for Unreal Engine games (not all of them, but quite a few and dating back many years) called umodel.

TL;DR: There is no catch all guide. Tools/scripts for games should have instructions. Read and follow them.

I'm still pretty new to all this myself, but I have had luck with ripping models from the Galaxy games, the trinity of stuff which I use are SZS tools, bmd view and Wii Scrubber. One problem I ran into was with my iso, which I had not properly reconstructed after ripping which rendered many of my extracted files as broken. Once I went back and tried again with the rip things worked out just fine.

There is a lot of outdated information out there and it can be kind of confusing at times.
