But take away those rose tinted nostalgia glasses and the old Bubsy games suck some pretty major balls as well...
I've only played the SNES version of Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind and I still, as an adult man, think it's a solid platformer. I don't get the hate like wtf
As a kid (because I was an idiot) I was taken in with it's crazyiness and liked the games. But they are not good games.
Like they are just a terrible mess of poor design. The Bubsy games are pretty infamous for being crap - so it's rather odd my 'hate' is so surprising...
Also adding to the list Ninja Gaiden Z, because yeah, that was what was needed. So bad in every way it's pretty much unplayable... Just seeing what you're actually doing is hard...

I don't get the hate like wtf I played Bubsy as a kid and liked the graphics, playstyle and I guess the music too, but the level design was pretty bad. I remember that in some levels, you're not going from the left to the right but have to go up some ramps which are filled with water. If you screw up, then you're down at the bottom of the level, which was very frustrating. Also finding the level exit was rather difficult.

Extremely boring, also the camera is drunk and all you do is either having a school dating sim or running around in a random-generated dungeon tower hitting on monsters with a bland turn-based combat system.
- Tales of Symphonia 2 (Wii)
The combat system is good, graphics/musics are decent, but the two main characters are the stupidest dumbasses I've seen in a long time in an RPG. The story wasn't very good either. Also I remember everytime your pet levels up, you can get special stat points for it, but you have to travel back to a merchant to do it. If you don't and level up a second time, the bonus points are lost.
I was going to fight you over Persona, but then you mentioned Symphonia 2 and it was all good.
Can I be the really old person and throw in Yo Noid! for the NES? Like, omg, I remember spending hours on that game as a kid just to get past the first level, only to be rewarded with a stupid mini game and then having to go through even harder bullshit all over again. Fuck that game.
Throw in NES Gilligan's Island too. That was another game I played for hours and I was never able to beat. I swear both of these were games they made deliberately unbeatable.

Metroid Other M
A very good example of character assassination.

Okay, but that's just story, which is all I ever hear people talk about. What about the game itself? Does it not play okay? (I haven't played it myself, though I do own a copy so I am legitimately curious).

from what gameplay of it i've seen, it doesn't look very different from the other prime games

I've played it and I think the gameplay is made stupid by the controls.
You only use the Wiimote and you switch between moving and third-person aiming by holding the Wiimote sideways and pointing it to the screen respectively. You can't move in first person, but it's the only way you can use missiles. You have these finishing moves that I personally find unnecessary and you can simply restore missiles by standing still. Health can be restored that way if it's low. It makes it easier, yes, but not more tolerable. I gave up halfway into that jungle area.
But to echo what had been said, the game outright ruins Samus as a character. She goes from a stoic badass that respected Adam as a mentor in Fusion to begging for senpai to notice her. The senpai that shot her in the back, because he believed she couldn't handle a thing. Like she couldn't handle stuff on her own on Zebes and SR-388.

Metroid: Other M is actually pretty good, but I got stuck in area 1 and had to quit the game. Then it somehow vanished in my backlog bin, which is kind of a shame. Anyway, graphics, gameplay & music are decent, storywise... well, it seems to be a translation thingy, I couldn't see any whiny or submissive Samus in the German version of the game.

The whole missle thing didn't really work...
The story was also a bag of balls. Cut scene wise and the actual story itself, specially near the end...
I mean, I guess it was an alright game. No where near as bad as the reputation it has but certainly not worthy of the Metroid name.

I used to buy games when I liked a game cover. Bought Ninjabread Man on the Wii years ago since I thought it looked like a weird and funny platformer. This. Game. Sucks. I rarely buy games without reading a review beforehand now. :/

i thought legend of kay was a fun game but i didn't have a ps2.
then i was excited to find a legend of kay for the DS at a gamestop!
but it turned out to be a shitty jump and collect stuff platformer rather than a beautiful looking beatemup
i think i still have it in storage somewhere because i wasn't allowed to return it.

I doubt even Zool would have saved it. Weird how like 4 other games were used using pretty much a single game :/

The entirety of the Assassin's Creed series. Well, maybe except for Black Flag, because pirates. I never really understood why people enjoyed these games so much. Over the years I've tried Assassin's Creed 1, 2, 3, 4, Rogue, and Syndicate, being very uninterested and bored to death by every one of them aside from 4. The games are all essentially made up of giant over worlds filled with useless crap to collect at nauseum and heavily scripted story segments that mostly involve following after some guy or running away from something. I honestly only liked 4 because of the open ship exploration and pirate theme. Without them, it's pretty much just more of the same... It's series like these that baffle me with their crazy sales numbers and high review scores.

kof 2003 is the worst kof imo. it's basically "try not to get angry" in the form of a fighting game. the matches aren't randomized, so each time you play it's just the same thing. then there's a fight against a clone of Kyo who has three times the amount of health AND is just horribly frustrating and broken AI. also tag-team is not very fit for kof. i'm glad kof XI fixed what 2003 did poorly.
