help with spritesheet
#1
Hi folks
I'm not a game developer, but I'm working on a project to clone Super Mario, and thanks to this site I was able to get some images

I have questions in regards to the sprites
i downloaded this sheet of Mario https://www.spriters-resource.com/nes/su...eet/50365/

and as you can see it's one of Mario at different locations

1. Do I need to separate them per row

2. Should i also separate them per activity i.e. running/climbing/swimming / etc?

(this should probably be moved to pixel art section then if it's a sprite project)

i think you should use whatever way of organizing looks best to you. if you like that one then go for it

and by cloning super mario, do you mean making a game that's similar to SMB?

Actually, the remaining palettes beyond Fire Mario/Luigi are just flashing palettes when they pick up a Starman.  They don't change colors when they go into underground, castle or water levels, though that probably shouldn't stop you from making it that way if you want to be more realistic with your clone.

Also, if you want to make the sprites easier to understand when your making this clone, than I should suggest separating them by movements; have one set of movements (i.e. walking) in one row, then move the next set of movements into the next row.  It would also help to label each one so you don't accidentally incorporate a swimming frame into your walk animation.

If my explanation doesn't make sense, here's at least one example of my own sprite arrangements.  Other than that, keep looking around the site and study other people's methods of lining up and separating each sprite they rip on their sheets.  It could help you flesh out how you'd set up your sheets to use for your clone.
