Sonic Unleashed
No, he has been sucking hard. How any company like SEGA who are gaming giants like Nintendo can get Sonic wrong 3 times in a row and how they can let Sonic's only games to get great ratings to be developed by another company is weird. They should have fans going "No one can do it like Sega" instead of several going "I wish *company* took their hand at Sonic".

The last 3D major game I liked of Sonic's was Sonic Adventure 2 - but the gameplay should have improved since then. Sonic has only had a coat of paint and a new angle, nothing has really improved.

I hope HOPE Unleashed is good because I haven't actually cared for new Sonic games besides the 2D ones Dimps has been developing.

I actually kind of liked Sonic Rush, and from what I've heard, its sequel was good as well.

I did say besides the 2D ones by Dimps, i.e. Advance and Rush series. They were really good and have been better at going back to the classic gameplay besides ports and the occasional game- yes I am looking at you Mario.

Quite a fewreviewers did say TP felt like a remake of OoT, actually.

Also, people liking a Mario game (or any game) doesn't make it great. I haven't liked any of Mario's sports games.

Sega is going through a rough patch, but they can bring themselves back and are seemingly doing it with Unleashed.

Rough patch? Rough patch, for nearly 3 generations of consoles? And you call it a rough patch?

Saturn - No Sonic game to speak off
Dreamcast - Average not great Sonic game. Adventure 2 would have been fine if you actually played as Sonic for most of it but the Tail's levels etc. were just a bad idea.
PS3/360/Wii - No good Sonic games.

How can a company fuck this up so many times and still be so blind?
I mean "hey I know why people complained about our last Sonic game because he didn't turn into a werehog!" who the hell makes these decisions. In the past this would have never even been looked into, maybe as a little joke but for a game idea? Jesus.

Goemar Wrote:Now there's no way I can defend the crapness of Sunshine though I would say that Galaxy was more than a remake. That's like saying that Twilight Princess is a remake of Ocarina of Time, which it isn't really. True I didn't think Galaxy was all that great but I wouldn't call it a remake. Contra 4 a remake maybe but not Mario Galaxy.

I don't think anything will touch Mario 64 because it basically did nothing wrong and was the first 3D Mario game a lot of people played. Maybe someone who played Galaxy first would see it as a better game than Mario 64.

And yes Mario has spin-offs but most are fairly good. Many of the sports games are great (where the hell is the new Mario Golf anyway?) and the Mario Kart games (minus Double Dash) are excellent. Yes his Party games and many others suck but his mainstream titles are still vastly better than Sonic's newer games.

I think it would be hard for anyone to argue that Sonic hasn't been sucking lately, and sucking hard.

i didn't say galaxy was a remake, i said galaxy sucked

Mario Galaxy sucked? Yes it wasn't great and had some stupid decisions (those damn maze things sucked) but it's one of the better platform games for a long time, and still 10 times better than any of Sonic's recent games.

Whoah man, first of all Sonic DID have Saturn games, but the system was such a lackluster no one remembered them. Not Sonic's fault.

Next, the Sonic Adventure games were great. Both of them. What's wrong with you?

You skipped the GC/XBox/PS2 era in which the decent Heroes game was released. Not that good, but it wasn't bad either. It brought back that classic Sonic atmosphere and revive Chaotix too.

The handheld games were always great.

And I thought Secret Rings was okay.

The fact is you guys are just being too critical of the blue one.

adventure 2 is the only good sonic game besides sonic 2006 which was amazing

And still people keep ignoring Sonic Rush...

Yes Sonic Rush was good, and it's follow up which I forget it's name was also good - both a huge improvement over the Advance series.

Adventure 1, 2 and Heroes were all bad in my eyes - sorry.
And Heroes bringing back that classic Sonic feeling? Like Knuckles not working alone but basically bumming Sonic? And there were still some stupid ass glitches in that game.

And Saturn Sonic Games? You mean like Sonic Jam (a compilation) and Sonic R (a bad racing game)? How were these true Sonic games?

Heroes I meant atmosphere-wise. The checkered grass, the random environments. It was a fantasy world unlike that we've seen in the Adventure games.

I actually enjoyed the Advanced series better than Rush. That whole boost system made things too easy. Sonic could just blast through things like nothing.

As for Sonic Xtreme, some horrible miscommunication between SoJ and SoA was what killed the game. If not for that, it would have come out. Check out the youtube videos on it, and you can see how close it was to completion.

DC is part of the GC/PS2/Xbox generation. Wink

Koopaul, it's all a moot point. I don't think I love Sonic any less than anyone here, but I think you and I are the only ones with past names who don't have the hangup on nostalgia.

I mean that's what it is right Goemar, and anyone else this could apply to? It's because it's not seeing Sonic bustle off the screen, Tailes failing ever so much to keep up or Knuckles fucking your shit up at every chance is what is missing from games.

Here's some thing I ought to point out about gaming in general and with it the regards to Sonic. I'm not going to jump to conclusions I just want to understand why Sonic seems to be dying? I thought Sonic lived for the kids not just for the kids who grew up, and didn't want to. Oh and to feed that sweaty Japanese guy down in Shibuya, he get's paid for making Sonic for the kids...at least I think he or (they) still do....Rolleyes

Story, there needs to be one apparently. Don't ask me why or why not there just needs to be. I like story, but I don't care if it is or is not there. Everyone could use a cool story now, why NOT Sonic? It be awesome if we could like I dunno...have a story where Sonic goes all fight all his friends who are being mind controlled by someone to make him go Super Sonic and take over the world with Super Sonic as his general? I dunno just a thought.

Advances in technology, Mario made a jump into 3D deviating from the good ol' left to right ways. Everyone did, Sonic had to, and I find more often than not Sonic gamers...dislike that? I dunno, I'm not saying "Everyone hates Sonic". but no one is willing to pass up the chance to snub SEGA, so I might as well ask.

What is it with you people? Why does the old formula stick oh so well to your ribs as if it were honey? Why not just play the old games again until they give you a Sonic you DO want? Seem to work fine ofr the Final Fantasy Fanbase...and the Metroid Fanbase...
Thanked by:
Just to try and answer your question; the jump into 3D was bad becuase it was executed poorly. That's why the fans don't like it. Every 3D game has been glitch-ridden, etc. wheras the 2D was virtually perfect. That's why the fans like the 2D or oldschool formula better.

Not to mention Sonic06 was a pile of crap.
