How to properly rip A Link to the Past stuffs ? (GBA / SNES)

I'm facing a small issue : I've seen that no one seems to have ripped Link's digging sprites from A Link to the Past. So, I've made it, thinking it could be usefull for a lot of people. However, here are two things : 



  • First, I've done it on a SNES rom. But the thing is that they are incomplete in this version : developpers only created sprites for 2 directions instead of 4. Why this ? I think we will never know. ^^ The fact is that if you dig while facing to the north or south, it will use a side sprite.
  • Because of this, I though it would be better to do it on a GBA rom. Indeed, they are complete in this version ! 
So, where is the problem ? Well ... In fact, I don't know how to configure the emulator to have proper colors. See :

Sprites are good, but the palette isn't. If you compare to  Link's sprites from the SNES version, you will see that every colors are different. 

Does someone knows how to recolor these, so they match with the real palette ? I guess that would be the easiest thing to do (instead of re-ripping everything).

Maybe the issue comes from my PC, I don't really know.

If these are from the GBA version, they should only go on the GBA version's page. Even though the rest of the sprites are the same, recolouring these to match the SNES version and submit them as if they are in the that version is straight up incorrect. I can see where you're coming from, but sprites should only be submitted to a game if they are in that game; it's really just as simple as that.

Now if the colours are just wrong in general, the best I can suggest is using VBA. It's generally the best GBA emulator and you shouldn't have to do any finicky business to get the colours right.

If you just want to recolour them to match the SNES version for yourself (and not to submit), then you'll probably have to do it manually in a tool like GIMP. Just use colour select to replace each colour with the matching one from the SNES version.

I was not precise enough in my first message, my bad : 

The main problem with submitting only on the GBA page, is that lots of people will just miss the sprites, because they will not have the idea to search here. ALttP for GBA is not very popular on TSR. That's why, as you can see here, the submitter of the spritesheet added a pink background for sprites coming from the GBA version. Tongue 

However, if this is really an issue, then I can just explain the thing with text ("SNES version only uses bidirectional sprites ...) and redirect  to the GBA game page, for the complete spritesheet.

But, what I have not told, is that even this rip, doesn't match with the real GBA colors. Very Sad

In my idea, the best would be to have : 

  1. A spritesheet for the GBA version with GBA colors.
  2. A spritesheet for SNES version with SNES sprites, as well as recolored GBA missing sprites. And a text to explain these sprites do not appear on the original game, but could be useful.
  3. And that's it. 
Because well ... If someone plan on developping a Zelda fangame with the shovel, using SNES sprites, he will obviously want to have sprites for the 4 directions. Not only two. But first thing first, I have to get the proper colors, and this is not easy at all.  Very Sad I'm using VBA for GBA sprites, and Snes9x for SNES, but no way, it never matches.
