I don't think Goku will be included either, I just think that the reasons he won't show up won't have anything to do with licensing issues.

Honestly, I think we're only getting ~five new characters (including Inkling and Ridley) and a handful (maybe even another five) of Echo Fighters. Sakurai has already asked us to temper our expectations about the roster, and having "The Complete Smash Roster" is all I really need out of playable fighters. At this point I'm more interested in game modes than anything else. The characters are some delicious potatoes, but Smash Wii U was light on the meat and I'm looking for a steak.


Edit-Edit: And honestly if a non-video game character (who wasn't owned by Nintendo) did somehow get past Sakurai's green light, I think I would honestly prefer Wreck-It Ralph. They did a great job making him look like a video game character, and I think he would look pretty natural standing beside the other classic gaming icons.

I don't think Goku will appear either, though Sakurai's statements aren't always final. He recently stated that the next Smash will have less characters, but he doesn't like to think about the future, but rather the here and now. Maybe not for this Smash, but I see the possibility for Goku to appear in a future Smash Bros. to get people hyped and thinking "how is this possible!?", to make up for cut characters.

Considering this iteration of the franchise seems to be going heavy into fan service, I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see Isaac finally become playable.

Yeah Issac is probably going to be the next playable character if anyone new were to make it in. I'm convinced that King K. Rool might be another one too if any more DK characters got the green light.

If K. Rool becomes playable, his alts have to be:
Classic King K. Rool
Kaptain K. Rool
Baron von K. Roolenstein
DK64 King K. Rool
Mario Super Sluggers King K. Rool
Maybe to fill out the minimum 8 required, costumes based on final bosses from other Donkey Kong games, like Frederick's viking outfit.

I'll be a little disappointed (but not devastated) if it's just going to be colors, because having different costumes is one of the things he's well known for. Not to mention that some fans will have more of a connection to Kaptain K. Rool than classic King K. Rool. Either way, it beats that weird looking Mii Costume.

Had to catch up with the conversation, and noticed the Goku part of it. If they include Goku in Smash, Im pretty sure they gonna add in another few manga/anime characters like Naruto and Ichigo and make some Anime Pack. Speaking of Goku, I recalled some tweet about Funimation wishing Nintendo to add in Goku for Smash Bros.

I highly doubt they're gonna bring Goku in Smash, like yeah, It could be possible cause Bandai Namco have the video game rights for DBZ and other anime. (i.e. FighterZ, Ultimate Ninja Storm), but again, I doubt Goku's appearance no matter how fans demand it.

I was expecting 1 major character reveal at the end with a possible echo fighter reveal at the start. Got 2 major characters and 3 echo fighters instead. With this many reveals 4 months prior, Dark Samus being in and Simon already having an echo in the form of Richter, I feel more confident that Shadow is going to make it in. Too bad K. Rool doesn't have the Kaptain and other costumes as alts, but at least he puts on the Kaptain's hat when using the blunderbus.

Also happy to see SNES Mute City and Brinstar Depths back. Hopefully Golden Plains is a sign that Pac-Maze will return.

Pouring one out for Zero and Shovel Knight who'll join Waluigi and Bomberman in Assist Trophy limbo. Love Rathalos.

I wished they were more clear on the Hazard Toggle though. I fear that there's only "all hazards" and "no hazards", meaning that you'll lose the platforms appearing in Wily's Castle if you want to get rid of the Yellow Devil. I hope there's a seperate toggle for stage bosses.

Really fantastic direct, glad Shovel Knight's just an assist trophy, still gives me hope that Shantae will get the indie Roster Slot instead, as well as both of those videos for Castlevaina aka the Belmonts and king K. Rool from Donkey Kong were very well done, still i hope that Rayman, Earthworm Jim, Banjo-Kazooie, get in a smash bros someday as playable characters, there the last of the characters from the 90's that had a major influence from the 90's, we have pretty much all the 80's iconic characters except Goemon could work as an assist trophy maybe?
