I wonder if there are too many character/stage combinations for a totally randomized system to work at this point. I don't know enough about programming to do more than speculate.

That can't possibly be it since you can still rando stages and characters in the versus mode. They've already got some kind of system for grouping the stages by franchise with the My Music system as well, so I think it's just they're trying to create a personalized adventure for each individual fighter. A bit like the story arcades in other fighting games. I'm down for it.

Well, given we got like, 70+ characters to choose from I seriously fucking hope that Sakurai adds in another heart container with the three already there. Either that or make it so that the easier the difficulty, more hearts, and the more harder, less hearts.

There's no way that many people are gonna be able to beat that many fighters without dying a lot.

I find it odd as well. I keep asking why they added Palkia, Giratina & Arceus and not Dialga? I also ask myself why they couldn't bring back Groudon and Raikou.

My opinion on this is that if they keep adding more Pokemon to the list, it will just cause the odds of all the Pokemon that come out either all evenly low, so you'll almost never have a chance to see the same Pokemon twice, or will cause a spawn rate of having Pokemon that come out 90% of the time, with some at 8% or even some at <1% (numbers here are arbitrary). For example, this could cause a ridiculous amount of Magikarps all the time that do nothing with the rare chance at maybe a Charizard, and the impossible chance at any legendary. They have to limit the number so there is more variety that shows but also you can still expect to see a Pokemon you want to get out of it more than just once in a blue moon.

Personally, I feel like that having an extreme variety wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing and it could probably make each match more interesting or feel more unique in that sense. One counter point I could make about the legendary pokemon are the Master Balls, which pretty much is mostly legendary pokemon to begin with.

So I don't think that more pokeball pokemon would be a bad thing in that regard because there's already been so much done with them that in smash ultimate they could probably get away with as much as they want so long as they keep it within the system's limitations, which have proven to be far more immense than what people thought as we've seen Sakurai go all out with characters and stages in ways that seem to push the console, hard.

With that being mentioned, I think what would be another interesting twist, far as aesthetics go is if Sakurai decides to throw in shiny pokemon and somehow make that a game achievement. But seeing that would be unlikely.

Rumors have it that there's a Direct tomorrow. We're getting close enough to the release that I can believe the Direct will feature a character reveal, even if the Direct itself isn't focused on Smash Bros. Personally, I believe it's going to be about Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee with the new Pokemon rep revealed at the end.

Sakurai said all of the characters will be revealed before launch. I'm expecting any Directs and Mini-Directs to feature a trailer at the beginning or end from here until December.

It's actually about 3DS games and Switch games overall, though, not just the Let's Go! games (though they'll likely show up and I think your prediction on a new Poke rep is pretty on the money).

Personally I'm hoping for a Dillon or Shantae reveal. Really wanna see Dillon rolls into battle! or Shantae is Ret-2-Go! one of these days.

What characters do you guys want to see as a playable character? I want to see Jade from Beyond Good & Evil & Phoenix Wright from Ace Attorney as playable characters.

Realistically: I'm still pulling for Dixie Kong and Geno is growing more on me.

Unrealistically: Not counting third-party characters, my most wanted but not-happening Nintendo characters are mostly supporting characters. Wart or Birdo, Princess Ruto (who is now completely viable since Hyrule Warriors showed us how she should fight), etc. I think Jill from DrillDozer has already been seen as an Assist Trophy this time around, but she's been one of my favorites since that game came out. Mach Rider would be very cool, if they went with the redesign from his Melee trophy.

It's kind of a difficult question for me, because the Nintendo character I wanted the most was Krystal, but she's already been deconfirmed. So it's not something I can answer honestly without also just ignoring reality.

Though come to think of it, I would really like Kamek as a second "Yoshi's Island" rep. I don't think it's going to happen, but it could be really neat. Heck, when you play as him they could even go as far as having Kammy take his place in the New Super Mario Bros. stage. I think Vivian would also be a really neat character, and I know she had a lot of fans back during Brawl. If she did get in, I wouldn't want her to be paper though. I'd love to see her reimagined as a full 3D character.

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing Kamek in as a Yoshi Rep, but his chances of making it in are extremely slim.

I think I can see some of the unrealistic ones as assist trophies and Dixie and Geno are probably the most likely characters to actually make it in at this point. I don't think anyone would disagree with that.

Actually, correction as long as Square isn't going to be a fucking cock about Geno given the shit they allowed for Final Fantasy. But what makes Geno likely for me is that Beware the Forest Mushrooms was remixed for brawl, but left unused. And then there's the costume which was already mentioned once. That's putting aside sakurai's desire.

But if I'm honest, If Geno makes it in I want Mallow to be incorporated into his move set. If not at least lets see Mallow as an assist, but I'd rather see Axem Rangers or Smithy have that position if anyone.
