Part of me always hoped Mallow would get in over Geno. Not necessarily just to be contrary to popular opinion, but because Mallow was always the more endearing and visually unique character in my opinion. I can see him showing up in Geno's Final Smash like they've been doing with other RPG characters (EarthBound and Xenoblade).

Well not only that, But Mallow actually has character development in Super Mario RPG.
Geno was just one dimensional to the extent that he only gave a shit about stopping smithy and restoring the seven stars. But he ended up being the one with the cameo anyways.

I think Birdo has a decent shot as a Yoshi echo fighter. Aside from two moves, it's a perfect fit. Just make the Standard B her Egg Shot from her boss fights and her grab a regular one, maybe based on another character, like Peach for example. Of course, they could add a Birdo flair to the rest of the moves. Incorporate a diamond and/or ribbon theme in them somehow or change the color of the Egg Toss' rainbow trail to reflect that of her Power Shot in Mario Golf Toadstool Tour.
I would love for Geno to have all sorts of elements from Super Mario RPG to be in his moveset, including Mallow. I want him to represent the game more than just himself. Have him use elements found in the overworld or status conditions, like Scarecrow. Anything to drive home the idea that he is THE Super Mario RPG character.

So I got to be able to play a little bit of smash ultimate at Best Buy today through the demo build.
All I can say is, it's gonna be good. I still can't believe that Ridley's down air is that fucking powerful to KO someone at minimum 40%. It could be used to throw a bone to the SMRPG community for having to wait so long to see any references as well as maybe some interesting Yoshi's Cookie referneces in the Egg toss replacing the eggs with the different kinds of cookies (Since they where Boshi's favorite food). It would also go along with the whole villains theme we have seen so far. Plus it would be much easier to implement than other echo's because of the character Boshi is just a Yoshi with a few extra details. Thanked by: Kriven

I could see Boshi as a skin if not an echo.
What would make Boshi a cool echo to say the least is that he's faster than the other Yoshis. Come to think of it I would love to see that one day Nintendo just gets the rights to all the Super Mario RPG characters from square and implement them into their core series if Smash Ultimate proves to have Geno in it. Back on topic however I think that Birdo would be better off being a clone rather than a full on echo. Because I don't see Birdo exactly copying every move yoshi has (There hasn't been a moment where I've seen Birdo stick his tongue out to eat people and lay them into eggs. Have you?)

That's why I mentioned the two moves that use Yoshi's tongue to be replaced by other moves, like the Egg Shot from her SMB2 boss fights for her standard B and a regular grab, maybe taken from a character like Peach, but modified to fit her anatomy. I think changing those two moves, tweak effects here and there, and new animations keeps her in the realm of being an Echo Fighter. I can totally see Birdo do moves like the Flutter Jump and Yoshi Bomb (or Birdo Bomb in this case; the stars could be hearts that move differently, with different damage and launch power for example). Using eggs is nothing new for her, so Egg Toss, Egg Roll and Egg Shield can stay the same too, but with the eggs being plain white like in SMB2 or with pink dots like in Mario Kart Double Dash. Birdo has been reused in different spin-off games time and again, often being paired with Yoshi because of her dinosaur-like appearance. This is why I think she has a good chance. You could argue that Waluigi has equal, if not more, notoriety, but unlike Birdo, he can't be made a clone as easily. Waluigi needs a lot more love and care than that and that's time better spent on more deserving characters or multiple Echoes. As much as I would love a Boshi costume for Yoshi, that's just not going to happen. Geno will, because of the massive demand, but at the end of the day, Super Mario RPG is just one game in a massive series of a sub-section of Mario spin-offs and Boshi is just a bad Yoshi NPC (bad as in evil, hence the pun, like Washi in Japan). I'm also pretty sure most Echoes will have different stats and hitboxes and whatnot. Deviances seem to be acceptable to Sakurai's idea of Echoes, it looks to me like the most important thing is that programming the character is as simple as adjusting variables on already programmed moves. If Geno does get included, I hope the art team takes the opportunity to design a whole bunch of models for the trophy gallery based on other SMRPG characters. Would love to see their interpretation of Croco. Thanked by: Retro64, DioShiba, Ton, Lilothestitch

Ahhh I see what you mean there. it wasn't really clear to me at first but when you put it like that it makes more sense.
Does anybody else want a Treasure rep to be playable in smash this time around? I can think of two really great ones Saki from Sin and Punishment which most people now know him cause of being an assist trophy since brawl, and the other being aka Marina Liteyears
I also wonder who the bizarre character will be this time around a lot of evidence is pointing towards a Rythem Heaven rep. Also the retro rep i wanted Was Takamaru but he's an assist trophy again, so the other retro rep i could think of is Mike Jones from Startropics, which i'm kinda surprised hasn't been referenced at all in any smash bros games.

I don't think Saki will be promoted. He's cool, but I think his fifteen minutes are up. Nobody on this forum is a stranger to Marina, but she's an irrelevant third-party character from a long forgotten cult hit. That said, they're both very cool characters.
To me it feels like if they include a "retro character" this time around, Balloon Fighter has the best chance. Sakurai has wanted to include the character before, to the extent that he's worked Balloon Fight elements into the Ice Climbers stage and given other characters Balloon Fighter assets. The introduction of Echoes as a concept would also make this ideal, as Sakurai could include both Balloon Fighter and Alice. He and ExciteBiker are about the last big-name classic characters left that aren't part of a larger franchise (like Stanley or Donkey Kong Junior.) Maybe Mach Rider is also notable, although really only because of his Melee trophy. Muddy Mole would be really fun, but I don't see it happening. Maybe Bubbles from Clu Clu Land...

Sakurai seems like the kind of guy who would be bothered by only 4/5 of the main characters being in.

Yeah Geno's looking more and more likely each and every day now, also i can definitively see Rayman being in now due to how friendly Nintendo and Ubisoft have been lately also that Rayman cloud in the King K Rool., trailer, Same for Banjo-Kazooie who Microsoft now owns, and Nintendo doing cross play with them now,
as for Nintendo Characters definitely Issac and Skull Kid for Sure in my opinion.

The clouds are nothing. People have been seeing things in the clouds since Brawl and they've never actually been there or signified anything.

Honestly it confuses me why people keep bringing up the clouds.
Clouds are clouds, people see shit in them all the time. In fact I looked at one the other day and it looked like Bilbo and Gandalf shaking hands. That does not mean they are in smash. But no, there is no reason for the clouds to be even referenced. |
