Forgot about the curry.
By the way, I'm so happy that the incentive for playing and winning isn't risking losing your rank to climb up. I always hated that and discouraged me from going back to ranked matches in Splatoon. Risk of losing also causes a lot of opponents to disconnect when you're finally winning. Here you play for tags you can sell to get all sorts of goodies, without having to bet any of your progress. It might actually motivate me to play online every now and then. I also think GSP is handled so much better than ranks, as it shows how good you are without shoving in your face how good you could or should be.
I'm also happy the shop now contains all sorts of items, rather than just trophies in Smash 4. I always wanted that store to contain custom moves, equipment and Mii Costume items, as getting these as random drops was tedious as all hell. Now it does! It has Spirits (basically trophies and equipment in one), Mii Costume items and music. It feels more like a shop now and gold feels more valuable to me. I hope the implication is true that items locked behind challenges can also be purchased in the shop. I'd like to eventually get all the collectables without having to clear Classic Mode on the hardest difficulty with a single stock for example. I'd rather do the impossible on my own terms.

I'm going to make my dumb DLC predictions here;
I think everything will be either a huge Nintendo franchise or a huge third-party get. So no Geno. Geno doesn't move money. Geno was base game or nothing. Keep in mind any DLC characters need to have mass appeal. They need casual or crossover fans to want these characters. Niche characters aren't suited for DLC.
- Steve or Banjo-Kazooie. Microsoft and Nintendo have been pretty buddy-buddy lately, and outside of the iconic Master Chief, these are the two that either have fans excited, or could make money in DLC sales. They both also fit the Smash demographic better than Master Chief. Kids aren't just growing up on Nintendo now. Minecraft might as well be the next generation's Mario. BK are at peak nostalgia right now, and we've pretty much exhausted the 8 and 16 bit eras for groundbreaking characters.
- Crash Bandicoot. We have Sega, we have Capcom, we have Namco, Square, Konami. Crash is the last "console war" veteran. He's at the point where his games are becoming nostalgic for people who grew up with him. That's the perfect time to bring him back, and the game remakes have already opened that door. His appearance could help launch him into the mainstream again. Smash has that power.
- Rex. Sakurai wanted him in the base game, but he came out too late. And we all know a costume doesn't disclude a character. Xenoblade is a huge series right now and it is still getting all kinds of DLC, keeping it relevant and current.
- Heihachi or Lloyd. Namco only has one rep while Sega and Capcom and Konami have 2-3. Namco helped make the game. It makes sense that they'd get another character, and these are their two heavy hitters outside of Pac Man.
- A Dragon Quest rep. People keep saying Sora is a lock, but I think they're really sleeping on a DQ rep. It's a huge, influential money-maker, especially in Japan, and Nintendo is bankrolling their next game. Like Namco, Square Enix also only has one rep currently. The problem comes with who. Erdrick is really the only DQ hero most people can name... mostly because lead characters don't have names. Slime is a great rep, and Piranha Plant has opened the door to random mooks being included.
So those're my Smash predictions. I've been wrong every other time, so don't put too much stock in this, but this is what makes sense to me right now.
Of course, not much makes sense to me after Piranha Plant...

I kind of feel the opposite regarding DLC and casualness: casual fans are much less likely to pay for DLC in general--it makes more sense to target that material to the enthusiasts who will pay a higher price/character to get who they want.
My guesses:
Geno
Banjo
Steve
Shantae
Sora/Dragon Quest
Geno and Shantae I believe to be the least likely. I could see Nintendo putting a couple of first-party characters instead. If that's what they do, I'm seeing Dixie, Bandanna Dee, Decidueye, Fire Emblem Switch or Xenoblade X as the likely alternates.
Granted, there's some rumors circulating that indicate Minecraft, Dragon Quest, and something called Gran Blue Fantasy are getting DLC content.
I'm still kind of shocked that Spring-Man is an Assist Trophy. I thought he was guaranteed a spot on the base roster or the DLC.

I agree with Kriven, DLC is most likely going to be the characters that are extremely wanted but still obscure. Unlike how the base roster did huge well known characters like Ridley & King K. Rool.
My Predictions are: - Geno (I thought this was a given before but now with him being a spirit (meaning they got the rights for the character and the RPG references in Piranha Plants moveset its basically guaranteed.
- Banjo
- Kirby Rep, Bandanna Dee or Marx (Because Sakurai's own extremely popular series is under represented while a niche series like Kid Icarus has as many as Kirby. Givign a Kirby character would make Sakurai & the fans happy its a win-win)
- Classic Sonic (SEGA & Nintendo playing with nostalgia, not an echo, fully based on only genesis & mania: drop dash, tails recovery etc, seems like a Sakurai thing to do instead of putting Shadow as an echo becuase well he didn't plus Sonic's development in brawl was rushed, I fell this would be a second change to truly present the character isnted of every move just being a spin dash.) I k
- Ubisoft Rep, Rayman & Rabbid
- Classic Square, Moogle or Slime

What I predict:
Rayman
Protagonist of Three Houses
What I want:
Crash Bandicoot
Tails (I'll accept any other Sonic character, but he's my most wanted)
Black Mage (or any class from classic Final Fantasy)
What wouldn't surprise me, but I'm not willing to bet money on:
Geno
Waddle Dee
Steve (Minecraft)
Banjo & Kazooie

My guesses on DLC:
Predicting:
- Rayman or Rabbids
- Geno (With Mallow being in the moveset no differently from how Chrom was with Robin.)
- Banjo and Kazooie
Possibilities, but not counting on:
- Marx or Waddle Dee (While Pirhana Plant does boost Waddle Dee's chances, Marx was also DLC for Star Allies. It would not surprise me if he ended up being considered over Waddle Dee)
- Tails or Eggman (I know that Eggman is a farfetched one and I wouldn't bet too much money on it, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did and operated as a heavier version of Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings with some Sonic Adventure 2 Flavor incorporated into it.)
- A Monster Hunter rep. (I don't know of anyone in specific from this franchise, but it wouldn't surprise me since Monster Hunter is referenced far more than Dragon Quest in Smash from what I can tell.)
- Crash Bandicoot or Spyro (Okay so Spyro is less likely than Crash, but it would be cool to see both of them somehow making it in.)

I'm a little bummed that Smash Run is gone, if only because if Rayman made it into the roster I wanted the Rabbids as enemies.

Yeah I actually thought that Smash Run was one of the more innovative modes in Smash bros as of late. Far better than what we got for the Wii U game.

I too think it's a shame its gone if only for the enemies, as another form of representation. Maybe they'll find their way into World of Light or the Spirits Board, but I don't have high hopes for it. Now that Pirahna Plant is becoming playable, it'd be cool to see him alongside Goombas and Koopa Troopas.

Spirit Fights sounds a lot like what my friends and I used to do as kids in Melee. We had a little Nintendo fansite on AOL Hometown and we were writing up Death Matches like SMBHQ and Nintendo Land used to do (man, I wish somebody had the original Nintendo Land Death Match pages saved somewhere...), and to determine who the winners would be we would run a round of Smash with all CPUs on 99 Stock and have characters represent each other. Donkey Kong was Banjo, for instance, and Mario in his yellow costume was Wario. It was good times.

Snakey Chantey was just confirmed for a remix. I'm so happy I can't even express it. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Plus these spirits are the cherry on top!
Plus on top of that they put Squawks in a foggy version of The great cave offensive referencing how he lit up the cave in his first appearance in DKC. With ICE CAVE CHANT! AHHHHHHHH!
If you cant tell I'm very happy

Hey so I just figured out what K. Rool's red alt is from his Jungle Jam pallate from DK: King of Swing
(Thanks to Frario for the sprite rip)
It's cool to see Smash not only have obscure references to Rare Ltd. games but PAON games as well! No DK game left behind!
