Unused Battletoads Arcade Sprites

From the screenshot, looks like the brain seen from the side, yet it's hard to tell if it was meant to float in the air or rolling like in that other game (Judging from the level layout, it's probably based on Stage 5 from Battletoads on Gameboy, except this time around there were scaling effects planned).

You know what? I actually found the scaling effect by selecting my Brain Chase level code while in stage 5, some how it just showed up.

.bmp   lil rash.bmp (Size: 53.04 KB / Downloads: 475)

Also I ripped the Brain's sprites, I just submitted them.

Also, another oddity, it turns out when playing as Zitz or Pimple their attack in Brain Chase changes them to Rash doing his running attack, then turning back to normal after the animation ends.

I guess this topic could be merged with the ripping project topic.

Looking back at the unused sprites with the honey, I think it might be an indication that Wasplings, enemies from Battletoads in Battlemaniacs were meant to make a return in Stage 4 (The game itself contained unused beehive mentioned in the manual), but they were replaced by Groggs later in development perhaps?

(Speaking of Stage 4, there were rumors that Karnath was the original boss there. Which might make sense, considering how we never see the bottom of the level at the end.)

You can do that if you want, I haven't been able to find anything else, So I probably won't be doing anything else with this thread.

That's interesting, You could be right there.

Also, I think the same about Karnath being the stage 4 boss, I think you can even see the weird skeleton thing from Karnath's boss fight  in stage 4's background, could be wrong though.

Any chance at finding anything related to the cut Brain Chase level?

I hope this doesn't count as necro posting and if it does then I apologize, but I found some very interesting stuff in a Gamepro magazine from January 1993. I also found an... Unused track? In Battletoads arcade using N's cheat code on the sound test in the service menu, using the code number 23 will make the game play a seriously slowed down version of the results screen music.

As for the info from the Gamepro mag, it gives a pretty good idea as to how stages were ordered as in the prototype, as well as show/talk about some stages that I've never even seen before. It even mentions Admiral Oink as a boss, as well as having to save Santa. It also seems that Karnath was the boss for stage 4 (or what is either stage 3 or stage 4 in the prototype), and that stage 5 was what we know as stage 2. And a ton of the game's palettes are different as well. There's also a maze like stage that I literally have no clue as to what it could be... According to the magazine there was going to be 8 levels in total.

Professor T. Bird also shows up in a screenshot, and we can see what he was supposed to look like. Rash also has his red armbands colored properly in the prototype, and Pimple seems to be red or something... He looks weird.

There's also some Battlemaniacs beta stuff in the magazine as well, such as Rash having red armbands, and the turbo tunnel level having a palette closer to it's original colors.

Here are scans of the magazine pages.

Credit to Retromags for the scans of the January 1993 issue.

I also added the Battlemaniacs scans too.

I actually found the graphics on the game in tiledggd! problem is, I interleaved them and it seems it's in big endian, but theres problem in the 8-bit graphics, while it workds with every other bpp where you change the endian, it doesn't on 8pp. A update for fixing it would be nice, just asking

Okay, this isn't about sprites, but unused sound effects, I was able to find these using audacity and ripping the raw data from the btc0-s.u109 file, apparently the game was going to have swear words in it... I have put all of the game's sound effects into a youtube video.
You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKj3gGWlKP0
