Having a problem with video advertisements.

For a while now I've been having an issue regarding the video ads that play towards the bottom right of the page, and I've decided to post about it here, in the case anybody has the same issue as myself. These seem to be rather new, since a while back I didn't encounter them, so I imagine staff members are still testing them, but I would still like to address this issue.

I want to stress that I don't have a problem with the ads at the top and left of the screen, those I'm okay with. I also want to stress that I am fully aware of the importance they have for the site, as they generate revenue that goes towards it. What I'm referring to, and that I have a real issue with, are the video ads that are at the bottom right of the screen. They are rather loud, they slow down the page (on my behalf at least, I'm not exactly the guy with the best laptop), and they play on every single page that I go to, including submission pages. Having to close them on literally every page is rather ridiculous in nature and I've had enough of it.

Anybody here have this same problem?

Those video ads have been around for about 7 months now but they're certainly not supposed to behave as you're describing. At the very least, they're supposed to be muted unless you choose to un-mute them. I'll have a talk with our ad partner and see what we can do about making sure that doesn't continue. I also thought they weren't supposed to show on every page load during a session but I could be wrong about that. Again, I'll bring it up.

For me (in Firefox), the video ads load muted, but do show up on every page. So the sound could be a browser thing.

99% of the time, they show up muted for me as well but I have heard an un-muted one slip through from time to time so it's worth exploring to be sure.

Don't know if this will help but whenever I get a un-muted ad its always the same type. That being medicine commercials. Every other ad I get is fine but those specifically are always un-muted.

If you guys are still seeing that ad auto-start with audio, can you take a screenshot and post it here so I can forward it on? The company handling the video ads has confirmed that nothing should be coming through with audio on by default and the screenshots will help them track down the rogue ad(s) and stop it from happening.
