I didn't do such a good job with the bowl, but I think backpack is good.

The bowl could be fixed try adding shading to both sides to give it a more 3d look
Like the guy did in this thread http://www.spriters-resource.com/communi...hp?tid=192.

I could add more shading, but it does look better. And I'll update the pallet on the right next time.

Better But The shade not visible make the helmet more darker so shade is more visible.

I think you could make the helmet/bowl transparent, and use less colors.

I dunno how to make stuff transparent......

I do have Photoshop 6, so I probably could, but I don't know how.

So, uh.

Can someone explain to me how every single sprite in the first post is NOT just a recolor? 'Cause I'm not seeing it.

As far as Olimar goes...

I don't believe you're using a reference. Olimar is not that tall and lean. That's number 1. It seems pointless, but I'll go ahead and dissect the sprite anyway.

There are TOO many unnecessary colors. Like gorsal said, you can easily subtract shades and colors and still have something that would be pleasing to the eye. Also, there is far too little contrast between the shades. Everything looks like one bright blurry thing. Make the dark shades darker, and employ the use of hue shifting a little more.
Moving on: He doesn't appear to have a neck. As in, it looks like his head is juss' floating in that white egg-thing. I suggest toying around with the bottom of the head a mite, and lowering the vertical placement of the metal neck-ring-thing.
The ear is too big and prominent. Its outline stands out too much.
By the way, I really dislike your color choice for the suit. It should be more pale than that. Even in the original Pikmin, Olimar's body wasn't that yellow.
His legs are the main, but not ONLY, reason why he stands too high. Decrease the length of the legs and make them more straight.
Again, as gorsal said, make the "bowl" transparent. Juss' give it a shaded outline and leave the interior empty.

Dithering, maybe?
I could help you with Photoshop, but i use gimp, but anyway, they're sorta similar
1. On a blank canvas on Photoshop, fill in the whole thing as your background colour.
2. Use a brush set as the bowl colour you have now (white), and set the opacity to 60-80% (how transparent you want it to be, i dont know.)
3. Brush over the background. Copy + Paste onto paint (whatever you use for spriting)
4. Color-Pick the part where you brushed over before, fill in the bowl.
5. Tada!

(I've been working on this, there actuallly is no visible neck, but there is the metal thingy, which I'm haveing trouble with)

Your being pretty harsh on me. I'm not an expert or anything.

And Andrio, thanx, I'll try that later.

She's/He's a really good spriter even though its alot you should study what she say, and improve you Olimar. Smile The more criticism you get the better your sprite will turn out.

I liked the useful stuff, but the other stuff was just mean, and stuff that I'd posted.

Example:
"Can someone explain to me how every single sprite in the first post is NOT just a recolor? 'Cause I'm not seeing it."
If s/he'd actually read the post, she'd know that they were just recolors and edits, and not have to shove it in my face.

Edit:
I just found a somewhat old project called AK, for Advance Kirby.
Note that it is an edit, obviously. It was going to be a semi-large sheet of Kirby's motions and physical attacks only, no special abilities. I'm thinking about revamping it, and picking it up again.

it's pretty much a recolor.

you know we're a bit harsh, but Geo wasn't lying either. You know, not every criticisms are friendly, and many of them will appear in your life. So, instead of complaining about that, get only the good part of the criticisms and work on them. Also, a lot of people here hates simple edits/recolors, so try avoiding them in future works.

Yeah. As long as the criticism is justified, there's no need to be over defensive. Criticism is not an attack on yourself. It's just opinions of your work.
