A Custom Pikmin Sheet
#16
Whoa way too block y. Smooth en you lines out make them more circular. Even the shading a little confusing. Don't think they'll accept this to the site so you rather as fix it or its just a waste. Especially the stems there like rectangles.

Edit: Oh you guys already said that.......

They're too jagged, their stalks are too thick, their idle poses need to be more than the leaf bobbing up and down. We're trying to help you make them better but you going "I don't see anything wrong with them" makes you seem stubborn.
Also you should make the animations you didn't wanna make.
I really, really resent that.
I got both Pikmin games AT THEIR RELEASE.
I did the best I could with the tiny style of M&L.
And they don't have an idle pose.

... Your excuses mean nothing.
First of all, unless Mario and Luigi shrink, they have to be waaaay smaller (don't give me bullshit, I've done it).

Don't post things if you can't take the heat.
Seriously, just listen to what is being said and become great or give up like most do.

I thought the point of posting your sprites in Sprite Discussion was to get criticism. Apparently this guy doesn't think so.

I hope you're aware that criticism and what makes you become a better spriter, because people point out the things you need to fix and improve on. Saying that you think it looks fine, if you're the one who made it, doesn't mean it's actually good. I'm not saying these sprites aren't good. They could use a bit of work, like everyone above said. Criticism isn't being mean about your sprites. That's how you're taking it. You're thinking everyone's supposed to say 'THESE ARE PERFECT' by the looks of your attitude. That's never going to make you a good spriter. I take criticism in a good way, knowing I'd become better and stuff along that lines. You should too.

Dumb lectures over now.

Okay, I FINALLY get your guys' point. And I actually have a solution now.
I noticed that in M&L3 sprites that Nintendo avoided using anti-anializing[I think that's what it's called...] on corners that would make the sprite look blocky.
I already edited some of the sprites and made them look less blocky, but I'm not interested in doing the rest right now.

I'm sorry, what?

Also, it's called "anti-aliasing".

The battle sprites are totally different from overworld.

Jeez, I thought you guys were actually trying to be constructive, you big buncha jerks. >.>

That sprite still has dark grey pixels around the outside of it, which is called anti-aliasing. Also, they are being constructive, you just think anything saying your work is bad is mean.

The "anything" has nothing to do with it. You got pretty snappy at me.
And I didn't say they didn't have ANY grey pixels around them. >.>
I've noticed that under two occurances a gray pixel is not placed on the corner of an outline.
These occurances are:
1- If the gray pixel would make the sprite look blocky
2- If there's another corner with a grey pixel on it and they would touch eachother.

You know, constructive criticism implies some amount of care.

LUGIA, people are trying to help you and you're being overdefensive and lashing out at them for no reason.

Try to do what the people recommended and see what happens. You might get something you really like out of this and plus your skills and knowledge will improve. Now you don't have to accept all critique, but remember critique is not an attack on yourself. They're just opinions of your work.

People come here to either get better or because they already know a lot. If the people who came here to get better make suggestions about sprites, you can choose to take it or leave it. If a pro gives you advice, then you better take it. They know what they're talking about. See, they already took into consideration your style, the style you're trying to impersonate and the game styles as well as the character design. You don't have to re-explain it to them as long as you make it clear once and you just have to trust that they know exactly what will make the sprites perfect.

BTW, I also made an Olimar sprite about 20 pages back. My pikmin were really bad, though, and I got some crits to fix them. You just reminded me that I need to work on that, so don't get angry at me and think I'm copying if I re-post my sheet in a few weeks or so...since mine is an Olimar sheet using Pikmin, so I didn't copy you...

I'd like to point out that the guy is obviously fairly new to pixel art, and just saying "too blocky" is in no way, shape, or form, helpful. If you actually want to help the guy out, then show him other sprites of Pikmin and/or edit his and post it so he can take on board your criticism visually.
