hmm, there seems to be some drama now that two people are working on the same character in this project. I'm not the person in charge so I can only say this is my personal opinion of this matter. Smithy's sprites are very nicely done and only need a few things to improve. As of the other hand, your sprites do look like resizes(not saying they are, but they look like it); what clearly happened was that you called the character, attempted, was given some time and didn't please the audience. For what is best for this project, I think we should take the best and only the best(who decides which is the best should be up to shnaps).

Your opinions are also very clear. If you want to continue working on this character, no one is stopping you. The only problem is that if you want it to be apart of this project you'll need to step up your sprites' quality. We might only take one sprite sheet, and it should be the best one; the best you can do about this is to make sure yours is the best. If I were you, I'd get to work.

I wouldn't worry about Smithy's work! Just keep on working on yours! I say, what's the problem with submitting both? If people like Smithy's, they'll use his! If they like yours, they'll use yours! Variety is the spice of life, as I sometimes say. Plus, your Dark Matter, Batandy, is slowly but surely getting better all the time! I was looking forward to how your sprites were going to turn out.
