Super Star Ultra Project - Phase 2

I'm sorry to say that the tornado is Whispy's and the circlets are fire kirbys. I will fix the tornado and the moving sprites after I have it all in order. I will get another tornado later but the tornado and circlets are both placeholders. The tornado and circlets will be changed in the real sheet instead of the ones from my blueprints.

Place holders for WHAT? What are you showing us? That you can paste Whispy's tornado behind Fire Kirby's head? ... Repeatedly?

As far as that Gooey thing goes, relax, poor PH, I'm prolly not gonna carry out with it. I'm exceptionally lazy and Gooey takes a little bit of effort to make him animate fluidly.

And by little, i mean a lot.

If anyone should do Gooey, i'd nominate Kyogre. He's boss at that sorta thing.

However, if I don't see significant improvement by your next progress-post, I may have to get my hands wet. I'm not gonna criticize what you have now, everyone else has done it enough already. Now you just have to listen to it.

I don't see what's wrong with the circlets, to be honest. Paint, Yo-Yo and Wheel are all the same. Beam and Mirror are, too, I think. Fighter's headband is reused for Suplex, and I believe Bomb's hat is just as Sword's and-perhaps, Sleep. Stone is Ninja, ironically. Plasma uses something similar to the circlets, though yes, it is an edit I suppose.

If HAL can reuse half of the hats, I don't see why he can't.

Look at these:

And then these:
http://spriters-resource.com/gameboy_adv...heet/15599
http://kirby.classicgaming.gamespy.com/m...ornado.jpg

then ask that question again.

If you can't figure out what's wrong...
HAL's and Sakurai's hat designs are the ONLY canon designs. If Fire's tiara and Tornado's circlet are different... then the person who decides to sprite TORNADO should base it on TORNADO's design.

THAT's more like it: Custom work. Now, some pointers.
- You shouldn't use black on the inside of the sprite, and because it's going to overlap with Kirby, don't use black anywhere the circlet is going to be over him. This will require some time and planning to get right, and it doesn't have to be perfect (on some canon circlet sprites, there's not a full black outline even in places where the circlet doesn't overlap with Kirby), but you don't want to be more than a pixel or two off here or it'll look weird and out-of-style.
- The shading's a bit off, you want to make sure your light source is coming from up above the sprite, and thus shadows would be lower. Also, use those slightly darker shades to put more details on the circlet; try to give the observer the illusion of the swirl on the circle on either side of the diamond (it may not work, so you might just have to use a circular indentation to take its place), and experiment making the middle gem diamond-shaped as seen in the Kirby's Air Ride Tornado Kirby reference picture Geo posted up above.

I did contemplate grabbing Gooey, I'm just not sure how smart it would be to split myself between the Smash Project Gooey and this Gooey. Who knows, it might be easier, as a pose made in one sheet could possibly be used in the other sheet, just edited to fit either style.
It's up to PH to fix Gooey so we don't have to worry about it either way.

EDIT: Oh, I got so caught up typing, I forgot what I came here for. Acro should be finalized now, I smoothed out his Idle animation (I won't post it, the GIF I get ruins the quality and apparently there's no program on the face of the planet that can create GIFs without the god-awful color loss that I get other than Photoshop, which is on my other machine), and I added a flinch / death frame (I knew I was missing something!), so it should be finished and ready for submission unless anyone has any qualms about it. Speaking of which, where's DrShnaps? I haven't seen him in a while, and the front page kinda needs to be updated.

Yeah, I've been wondering where Drshnaps is too... But great job on Acro nonetheless! Big Grin
Hm... until I figure out something to put here...

Better, but it's still lacking some detail. First and foremost, though, you have to to a black outline around the sprite for it to be in-style; what you DON'T want is, when you paste the hat over Kirby, a black outline from the circlet appearing on top of the Kirby sprite. So, you have to selectively outline the sprite and do some experimenting with it. With the gem, I meant the casing around the gem, not the gem itself; the casing is still fairly circular. If you indent the corners of it, it might work. Also, I think you should do as much as you can to make the circlet look like ith as the swirl, or at least something more than a dot, on either side of the gem; even if it means increasing the size of it relative to the circlet a bit, it'll look more interesting.

Did you see my earlier comment (must be at least 3 pages back by now) on anti-aliasing, PK? I think it'd really help make Pitch look more like the KSSU style.

Alright, cool. I just wanted to make sure you saw it.
I do have one other comment: In the pose where Pitch flaps down, his wings seem a bit too long. Other than that, it's looking great so far.

@omegakyogre is the acro based off the kdl3 one or the k64 one? if its the k64 one, shouldnt there be the vertical swimming sprites, and the wierd missiles with eyes?

I don't think any of those have enough detail put into them.
You have a palette of 14 different colors (excluding the obligatory background color and black outline) you can use on this one hat, and with all of those colors, you can put a lot of detail on a small item. You should also be using the Fire and Ice hats as references for size. For instance, using http://www.brawlcentral.com/images/troph..._kirby.jpg as a reference, I was able to come up with this version of the hat:

The palette I used is the one on the bottom. Five colors for the circlet, three colors for the gem, a color for blending it to Kirby on the bottom, and five colors for the ring on the back-- those five colors should also be all you need for the Tornado, as they were taken from the Advance-style Tornado Kirby's Tornado you see on the right.

You need to spend more time on your hat and make it look like the real thing. Or, if you'd prefer, you can use mine and edit it for his other poses.
